Hi Tammy,
The DXF file version depends of the Punch package you are using. What Punch version are you using? Did you save your file as DXF or did you export as DXF?

My architect sent me a dwg file. What do you reoommend for conversion to AS18 Rev 6.01?
I think I would like to send my architect
a file that he can read. What is best way to convert AS18 to dwf?

Hi Charlie132,
To import CAD files to your Punch AS 18, ask you architect to save the files as DXF R12. He/she must save the files separately.
If you wish, you can do your own conversion. You can download a free CAD utility from the Internet (try tucows or download.com). Autodesk (Autocad manufacturer) has a free Autocad demo for 30 days
To export your Punch plan to DWF: Punch doesn't export directly to DWF. Actually you will need Autocad to do this: the DWF format uses data compression and vectors to create transferable files. If your architect needs DWF files, your best solution is export your Punch AS 18 file to DXF. Your architect will be able to open it with Autocad and convert it into a DWF file

I'm essentially having the same problem that Tammy is. I am using Pro Platimum and attempting to export as .dxf a floor plan. When I do this, I notice that the file does'nt save with the .dxf extension but stays .pro. At this point punch will no longer open the file and I then surmise that it has been converted to .dxf. When I email the file after having renamed it with a .dxf extension, the guy at the print shop tells me the file is very small, around 11k and that he can't open it in autocad or other programs he uses for dxf's. Got any suggestions?

Hi joltn,
In Punch, there is a big difference between "Save as" and "Export".
The "Save as" command will save the file as PRO. There isn't other format available to save Punch files.
In Punch Platinum, to export a file as DXF, you must use "File-> Export-> xxx.dxf"

With the floor plan open, I have followed the directions on page 274 column 1 exactly. I used the settings for dwg/2004. Click save. Export box disappears....When I return to the export box, no floor plan....What gives.

I used the powertool dxf/dwg exporter to send my .pro file via email with a .dwg 2000 extention. TAt the time the program did allow me to save the file with the.dwg extention. I heard from the email recipient that the .dwg file did not open and I've attempted to send again without any success. Now when I go to the dxf/dwg exporter with the base .pro file and select a .dwg extention I am only being shown .dxf as a selection choice. Any help to restore the .dwg extention choice. If closed the program and restarted - but still no change. Thanks for your time - Susan

Can you tell me what Punch program and version are you using?
If you have AS 3000, it has a typo: the DWG option doesn't exist, however if you Export as DWG 2000, the file will be a DWG 2000.

In AS4000, I see no Export command under the File menu. (There is an Export 3D, which seems to be something else entirely.) How can I export to DXF?

Hi Peter,
The export to CAD feature is not in the File menu, actually it is a Power Tool
Go to Power Tools--> DXF / DWG Exporter--> Select Format--> Version--> OK
