Hello People,

I'm experimenting some difficulties to show a wall of my basement after having excavated the ground along it.

I did this:

excavation

To show my basement wall, I created a basement with a 30 cm depth (elevation param), then I created a 30 cm excavated area on my ground, but when I wanted to change the material of the basement part of my wall, I selected Basement as my active floor, I clicked the brown part of the wall in the 3D windows but nothing happens because SmartWand doesn't recognize my wall as a wall.

Any clue, please?

Merci.

Edit: Lol I changed the basement wall heigth to 2 m, now I can see it through my windows, I clicked on the wall into a window, I got my new material, then I changed back the heigth of the basement wall to 30 cm!

solced

Hi there,

I don't recommend the method described because in some situations it would create interferences with other elements.

This is the correct method to apply colors / textures to underground walls => in live view mode => select the "little man" => change the "little man" elevation setting it underground (a negative elevation) => you will see the grass above (instead of the sky) => apply the color / texture. See image below.

Texturing basement walls.jpg (32kb) downloaded 2 time(s).

A lot more this issue => check pages 230 and 236 of my V20 eBook.

Hope this helps.

BTW, I just used right click to have the Yellow Man go down into the ground, no elevation param to set to a negative value, but I understand I can use both.

Hi there,

In 3D Live View you have 4 different tools:
- Walk-through tool (little man)
- Flying around tool (chopper)
- The Aerial View tool (satellite/ earth)
- Room View (icon showing a floor plan to see an aerial view of the room)
For these tools you can define their elevation using the right button of the mouse or manually by double clicking the tool. So for example, double click the chopper tool => the default elevation is 1000" => if you wish, you can change the flying elevation to 800" or another desired value.

Hope this helps.
