Here's a suggestion. How about an option to allow editing in 3d workshop of all the power tool created cabinets. Or have these prebuilts available as objects. I'm not sure how AS does it. I am using pro v20.

Hi there,

Although it would be a good option, I don't think that it will be possible. This is why:

The cabinets created with the Cabinet Tool (Floor Tab and Landscape Tab) are components. As such, they have special properties that are specific for that tool. Therefore they can't be edited as objects.
A good example to see the difference between objects and components is related with the sinks => if you have a cabinet and you add a sink using the sink tool (Plumbing tab), in this case the sink will be a component so it will create the counter opening automatically and it will be placed at he correct elevation. If you place the same sink as object (Furnishing library), in this case it will be an object, so it won't create the opening and you will need to set the elevation manually.

In the Furnishing library (Kitchen and bathroom sections) you will find several prebuilt cabinets that you can modify using the 3D Workshop Power Tool. I have also a few cabinets in my libraries, let me know if you need something specific.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I have created several my self as well. Also I have been creating my own modified receptacles and switches. How do I get the electrical symbol to show on the plan. I get the 3 dot formation when selecting object/component on plan. I don't see the cad(?) symbol for the electrical item. Will I/can I create this at the same time as object? As always, Thanks in advance

Hi there,

You're welcome! BigGrin Thank you for your feedback.

Regarding the electrical symbol, I am not sure what do you mean? Is 2D or 3D? Can you show an example or send me the symbol?

In 2d. When I insert a component from electrical tab it shows up in 2d with cad for component (ie. o=) for recept. Can this be created in workshop somehow when creating or editing objects or will I just create a cad symbol from scratch and place on 2d plan?

Hi there,

Yes, you can create the 2D symbol of any new element (furniture, electrical, plumbing, etc) using the 3D Workshop Power Tool.
This is how:

Say you created a new switch using the 3D Workshop (pointed in blue in the image below)
- Go to the 2D profile tool (outlined in green in the image below) => Modify the profile as desired, adding lines, symbols, etc. (outlined in brown in the image below) => you can save the new object in your object library or in your component library (outlined in red in the image below). As a component, you can customize the settings and it will be as any other switch in the program.
- Important => when you are closing the 3D Workshop you will be asked about the changes and then you will be asked "Automatically Generate 2D profile?" => if you modified the 2D profile answer NO (otherwise, your custom symbol will be deleted)

Switch Symbol.jpg (20kb) downloaded 4 time(s).

Hope this helps.
