In my ongoing learning curve, which is going well, thanks Patricia. :) Right now I want to import 3d objs into the library

I have no problem importing .skp files from 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com into a project. What I don't know is how to save them to the permanent library, would even like to create my own library, categroized etc.

I do not find intuitively how to do this, nor any information on how. I sure hope it does not involve 3d Custom Workshop Pro. Each and all attempts to load that has resulted in Windows being totally clobbered. It hangs, the system beeps, totally dead. its reminicsent of the old days of apps trying to access protected memory. The only thing missing is the blue screen of death.

For now, not sure I care about that, until/unless I know what it is. I would like to know how to save imported objects into the permanent library. Thanks!

You're welcome! Cool

Sketchup objects are useful when you use them with the Sketchup program, but exported SKP files are not very friendly.
Usually, they include a large number of polygons, and for this reason, they create interferences.
I believe that you have my eBook. If so, check the "Polygons Issue" (page 134).

If you import the SKP files with the main program, you can't save these objects in your libraries.
If you import the the SKP files with the 3D Workshop Pro, although you can't save the objects directly to the libraries, you can try this trick => Open 3DCW Pro => Import => Sketchup => import your object => Export to 3D Studio => Close 3DCW Pro => in the main program => File => Import => 3DS => Import your file => after you imported the file => right click => 3D Custom Workshop => open the file => you will be able to save the object to your Custom Library.

Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks for that wild work around. :) It almost worked, but might have worked. Not sure.

When I did the last step, save to custom library, the app hung, solid hour glass and (not responding) in the title bar. Was able to close it down, back to main program. I could not find the /My Objs/Yard Furn that it appeared to allow me to create and save to--but hung.

So I tried again, and oddly it told me it already exists, overwrite? I am at a loss. Any ideas. Weird how those two power tools keep hanging in my system. Though today custom workshop pro came up fine, yesterday it was hammering windows. Beats me. Any ideas? See img

I don't know where my custom library is, how to access it. I searched on "custom library" in the ebook , found a couple references to it, but not how to create it, find it etc.

Hi there,

There is an entire chapter called "The Libraries", starting on page 207 of the eBook. On page 208, you can see the location of each library and on page 209 you can learn about the libraries access and organization.
The Furnishing library is described on page 211.

In addition to the table of contents and as the eBook is a PDF file, if you click Control+F, the search is activated => just write the desired keyword (Library in this case) and you will be able to find all the references.
