Hi there, In my eBook there is an entire chapter called "How to import a clean DXF / DWG file" => you can look in the Table of contents or use the search feature or just go to page 252. The Convert To tool starts at page 178. Go to the landscape tab and delete all of your topo lines and slopes. Be sure to check each of your floors for any topo.
You can use the selection filter to isolate topo lines when selecting. From the 2D menu choose->Selection Filter Options... Second column, third from bottom is "topography". Check that and close the dialog. Now hold down ctrl and drag a selection rectangle over your whole design. Notice only topo lines are selected.
Nice design by the way!

If you just want to keep the topo flat but raise or lower it simply draw a single rectangle using the topo tool and set it whatever elevation you want the topo.

OK, I've got my house drawn, using the original plans and trace option in HD&L Pro, Win 10. It is also drawn to scale per instructions. Now I would like to use the topo map that is a jpeg, but I'm not sure how I can use it on the file I've already created. Also what about scaling it properly? Thanks

My suggestion...
-Create a new blank plan. Optional but easier to edit all the topo lines without having the existing house interfere. -Use the floor plan trace again and load in your topo image. Don't worry about the scaling for now. Also don't worry about being exact, won't make much difference. -Go to the topo plan and trace over the lines with the topo tool. -Once that is complete you can select all (Ctrl+A) of the topo lines and from the properties bar change Edit Level to Object. Now you can grab the corner and resize all of the lines at once. -Now go back to your home plan and make sure you are on the Landscape tab and paste them in (Ctrl+V). You'll need to be on the same floor name I think. -Resize and position them where you want them. If you need to select them all again use the Selection Filter Options... from the 2D menu. -When on the landscape tab you'll notice the lot is surrounded by a green area, you'll want your topo lines to extend out into this area (this helps create a smoother lot). You may have to drag the end points of the topo you traced, switch their Edit Level back to "Points" from the properties bar.
Recap: -Trace into blank design -Copy into home plan you are working on -Resize and reposition where you want them -Extend endpoints into green space.

To smolenr, Answering your email note => yes, the topo jpeg can be resized and scaled as any other trace image. I believe that Mike's method is a good one. OK, I'm still having trouble scaling the topo. Importing it in is no problem, but when I try to scale, using the dimension directions, I'm getting numbers for all 4 sides of 400%. This is on an existing file where I scaled the architectural drawings. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Hi there This is why you must follow Mike's suggestion Mike78, "Importing Topography Map" #6, 13 Oct 2017 9:00 am Also, there are only 2 directions to scale, not 4. Sorry, Mike's instructions aren't clear about scaling, other than sizing, which doesn't help me. Also the 4 sides, represented 2 vertical and 2 horizontal. I was making sure that the percentages I came up with were accurate.

Okay, here is what I do not understand: - Point number 4; why do I want to resize? I just traced the lines exactly as they are on the topo. If I am resizing, how would I know how much to resize? - Point number 5; I found that I needed to do a Ctrl+C first and then paste - Point number 6; again you recommend resizing. But I do not know how much to resize. Especially if I am trying top draw to scale.

I meant instead of trying to rescale the trace image just trace over it then rescale the topo line objects. I wouldn't worry much about being perfect with the topo lines, you aren't going to get exact precision out of the topo contours.
Just select them all after tracing and set to object edit level, then grab a corner point and stretch them out.

Mike, I appreciate the feedback and I probably am not being very clear. At this time, ALL that is important to me is making sure that the property lines are precise. I'm using the topo chart because it also has all of the property lines on it. I understand that contour will not be exact, and that's fine. But I already have the house drawn (to scale from the architectural drawings). Now I want to see how it will fit on the property. When I try to trace the property lines and then copy onto the house image, that is where I get confused. How do I scale it so that it is the same scale as the house. The architectural drawing are from one file and the topo is from another. Thanks for your patience.

Do you have any type of measurement marker in the topo file you can use to get the topo scaled correctly? Like property line edges?

Yes, the actual feet measurements are on the topo. But what's interesting is when I scaled it on a fresh page, I was going to have to set the percentages for both vertical and horizontal at 400%. Just didn't seem right.

You are good to go then! You will need to adjust those percentages until that matches. 400% is fine if thats what it takes. The original size of the image is just based off the resolution of the image I think, so you will always have to adjust it.
If you know one section of the topo is 100ft then draw a line 100ft and adjust %s until it matches.
Sorry we are having such a hard time getting this figured out!

Hi there, Not sure if it helps, but this is an additional tip: The 400% resizing percentage is not related with the drawing scale. As Mike stated, it is related with the resolution of the image. You will find the scale of a Punch drawing at Design => Plan scale. So after you resized the PL's (as per Mike's post) => check your 2 files (house and topo) => Go to Design => Plan scale => if both files show the same scale (1/4"=1' for example) then you can copy and paste the property lines to the house file. Hope this helps, Patricia G. / Forum Moderator --> My website: www.punchhelpers.com--> My all in one e-book for V19 (Windows): Learning Punch Software (R): Training, Tools & Tutorials for V19 - Windows Version --> My all in one e-book for V19 (Mac): Learning Punch Software (R): Training, Tools & Tutorials for V19 - Mac Version --> My all in one e-book for V18: Learning Punch Software (R): Training, Tools & Tutorials for V18 --> My Home Design e-book: Designing your Dream Home Using Punch Software --> My all in one e-book for previous versions: Learning Punch Software (R): Training, Tools & Tutorials - 2nd Edition --> My e-book: Learning Punch Software (R): Basic & Advanced Training-Second Edition --> My e-book: Learning Punch Software (R): Importing, Exporting and Printing-Second Edition --> My e-book: Learning Punch Software (R): Power Tools-Second Edition --> My free e-book: Learning Punch Software (R): Mini - Tutorials --> My e-books free video presentation: Pat's e-books --> My Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/punchhelpers.links--> My Tips & Tricks notes: https://www.facebook.com/punchhelpers.links/notes |

Thank you both Mike and Patricia. I got it. Both on the same scale and copied with no issues. I did have to increase the lot size to be able to view the boundaries, but things look good. Thanks again.
