Hi there,
You can create the landing using the Floor tool (Floor tab) --> set the thickness --> set the elevation Now, regarding the colors / trims --> just a guess --> are these surfaces under the 0.00 level? --. if so --> set the elevation of the little man under the 0.00 level
There are few tricks to apply the textures 1 - Try to set the position of the little man close to the surface you wish to apply texture or color, however, you don't need to be on the floor to texture a floor, for example. If there are not interferences, you can even apply a texture from the chopper 2 - Never apply a texture or color through a window or door--> the windows' or doors' openings just render the surfaces as transparent, but the walls are still there. Therefore, if you apply the color or texture on the cabinets through a window, the colors or textures are not going to work because the transparent wall is there. If this is the case, you will be able to apply the colors and textures on the lower cabinets, but not on the upper cabinets. Remove the wall--> apply paint or texture to all the cabinets --> place the wall again 3 - If the room elevation is under the 0.00 level--> the little man elevation must be also under the 0.00 level 4 - Doors and windows-->apply the color / texture on the surfaces parallel with the wall where the door / window is installed

Thanks, Patricia. I was able to create a landing by creating four interior walls, and putting in a floor to the height I wanted, then removing the interior walls, and moving the floor/landing into position. I assume I had to create a space with walls first in order to delineate the landing area. No luck on color and material application, and now I don't even get a window option to change the walkthrough or flythrough elevations. Could I be encountering a bug in the software?

You don't need the walls to create the landing, just draw a rectangle with the floor tool
Select the object --> Edit --> Set object elevation
Also, are you working in Quick start mode? --> The Quick start mode is just this, a fast layout. Therefore, after you press the "Continue" button you will be able to Save, Import, Print, Move, set the precision and units, use the Elevation Slider as well as use all the Punch features
