Hi there,

I see several problems here

Regarding error message--> can be one of several possibilities
- Confirm if the the subfolder "data" exists in the Punch! program folder
- Confirm if the permissions on the "data" subfolder are OK so any user can write in it
- Are you running Punch from a non writable disk?

Now, the exclamation marks are signs that the texture you used is unavailable (see image attached)

The common reasons for this problem are the following

- If you created and applied Custom textures and you are in different computer, you should install the Custom textures in the new computer
- If for some reason, some or all the textures in Program Files/Punch .../Textures/ --> were moved or deleted--> you need to set or install the textures again
- If the textures are referred to a non existent Material Palette or if they are set in a different media (not accessible or available)

Remember that the Punch file includes the link to the texture in the installed program but the file doesn't load the texture

Now, in your case, that the unavailable textures are the grass and the sky + your question regarding the file location, I'd say that it sounds like you moved some of the Punch program folders, and this is the reason of the problem

Once the Punch program is installed, you can't move the program's folders and subfolders.
If you have a network (I do) or if you work with 2 disks, you can install the program in one disk and work with a file saved in other disk

But, concretely, for your case, I'd suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the program, all in one disk, and see if this solves the issue.

I did move the file when I reformatted my computer. Thank you very much, I'll reinstall the program and see if I can get all of it to work out. I'm honestly not sure if I'll still be able to get a key code for the reinstalled version so I'll hang onto the the old copy for now. But as far as I can tell, I can still save plans I'm in the process of working on, so if the reinstall decides it wants to stay in trial mode, then I'll just live without the 3D view.

Have a good day and thank you so much for your input.

If I uninstall the program and reinstall it, will I still get a key-code from Punch! ? Or will it stay in 'trial' mode? Because if I can uninstall the program and reinstall it and get a key-code for it, then I'll be all set. If not, I'll just lose the program use itself. My understanding is that when the program is in trial mode, you only have access to the program for seven days, you cannot print, save, or export your work.

Any information would be a great help. Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns.

I just purchased landscape deck &patio version 17.7.1.1009. it worked well for the first several hours , but now everytime i click any 3D icon the program stops working. when I restart it ,it say I must repair the file, which it then says was done successfully, but as soon as I try and View in #D it crashes again.

Hi Bill,

The problem is probably related with your video card and the size of your file

As a general rule, try the following maintenance steps in your computer:
1 - Check the website of your video card manufacturer and update the drivers

2 - Go to the video setup on your PC (may be different for different versions of Windows and video card); for most, click on an empty part of the windows Desktop, click on Settings->Advanced->Troubleshoot). Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem disappears. For Windows 7 --> Right Click on your desktop. --> Personalize --> display --> Change Display settings--> Advanced

3 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK

4 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color")

5 - Go to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer

6 - Some users reported additional problems--> in this case change the color settings from 32 bit to 16 bit

Now, if you the accelerations controls are not available, this means that you don't have a dedicated memory for video. In this case, go to the control panel of your video chip / adapter --> performance --> move the control and set down the performance. This may help

As you stated that this issue started after few hours, probably the issue is also related with the size of the file and your computer resources.
- If you are working with a heavy file, including lots of furniture, 3D objects, topo, lights, etc, the issue is more related with the file
- If you have a slow performance with any Punch file (with just a wall, for example), then, it is a hardware issue.
But even this, will depend of the computer / processor you have. All the elements work together.

Tips

- Click on the Plan icon at the top of the LiveView window (Render and Navigation Options). Clicking on the different icons you can disable temporarily the lights or 3D objects, or topo etc. This will speed the rendering during the working process

- Use View--> Render Clear view--> use this during the elaboration time

- Try to apply the 3d objects (cabinets, furniture, etc), lights and topography at last

- You can turn off the "Undo" feature--> Edit--> Undo preferences. This will speed your work. Just remember to save frequently (because this step deactivates the autosave for backup feature)

- To get a good Punch performance, close other programs, including the e-mail. Perhaps, other programs are using resources otherwise required in Punch.

If you have any of my training e-books, search the keyword "polygon" to learn more about the effect of the objects in the performance
