Hi EddyQ,

there are different methods to import a plan in Punch
- You can import a DWG / DXF plan and convert the lines to intelligent objects
- You can import an image (jpg, bmp, etc) and trace the plan

Now, if you wish a step by step guide to import plans in Punch and how to proceed with the different formats, as well as general import, export and printing processes, I'd recommend my e-book

To anyone out there using Home Landscape and Design,
I am trying to import files as it has been shown, and told to me though the books and tutorials however, I always seem to get an error. I must be doing something wrong, or perhaps I am missing a step, or perhaps the files needs to be at a lower version.
Any suggestions?

I have re-created the drawing file in Landscape and Design but it would seem and be so much easier to do this with and existing file from my customer. Also since I am getting the information from an Architect, or Engineering firm using there files would decrease the error factor when updating floor plans.
Again, any Suggestions?
Milt

Hi Milt,

Import files in Punch can be tricky, because sometimes the files developed with other programs have odd entities that you should clean first.
You wrote: "as it has been shown, and told to me though the books and tutorials" => did you follow my tutorials? Can you detail the problem as specifically as possible, so I can understand the issue? Let me know exactly what you want to do, what you tried, what seems broken, the exact error message, etc.

Anyway, I wrote an e-book covering all the importing instances and formats
Learning Punch Software (R): Importing, Exporting and Printing

In addition, I have a free e-book covering the CAD importing process, step by step

Patricia,
Thanks for writing back. I have not reviewed your detailed information, just the tutorials that came with the software. I am also looking for the book that came with my first license (I have 2 versions of the software). My 2nd version did not come with book and was only purchased to use with my windows-7 upgrade. I am really sure there was a chapter on importing. I keep going back and forth between the Punch software and Autodesk Revit so I might be getting mixed up with the procedures.
Anyway, I will log on to your website to get your e-book and will follow up with you over the weekend. Thanks again for your help and information,
Milt

Milt,

You're welcome! ;-)

You didn't inform the name and version numbers of your Punch programs, but if you have the current version, they don't come with a printed "book" but they include the user guide that you will find in the Help section of your programs. There is not a full chapter on importing but, sure, you can use the search feature + the keyword "import" to find the specific section.

I'm using Home and Landscape v17.5.5.1001 on a Windows 7- 64 bit computer. When I attempt to follow the instructions to File-Import- dxf/dwg, there is no option for importing a dxf/dwg file. The option to export to dxf/dwg is there, but not to import. What do I need to do to get this option?

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, the DWG / DXF import feature is not included in the Punch Home and Landscape version. You can confirm this information and compare with other versions in this chart
