Hi there,

1 - Regarding the deck and the floor => verify if the deck and the floor have the same thickness and elevation. Note that the deck elevation is referred to the base of the deck. The working elevation of the floor is the top surface of the floor.
If you are interested, you will find a step by step tutorial about this subject as well as an entire chapter called "Understanding the elevations" in my eBook exclusive for AS V18 users Learning Punch Software (R): Training, Tools & Tutorials for V18
2 - You wrote " is there a way to view the 2d diagram from the side so that I get an elevation view with dimensions?" => this feature is called "Elevation view" but this feature is not part of your program. You can see the different programs and features in this chart

I have the book. I have read the elevation chapter, which is how I've managed to get as far as I have.

"1 - Regarding the deck and the floor => verify if the deck and the floor have the same thickness and elevation. Note that the deck elevation is referred to the base of the deck. The working elevation of the floor is the top surface of the floor."

The Working elevation of the floor is 1'-2" and the Object Elevation (selecting deck) are the same, 1'-2". Both the deck joists and floor joists have the same thickness.

The stairs appear to be only the height (thickness) of the deck joists (2x10) and do not extend from the deck surface to the grade.

"2 - You wrote " is there a way to view the 2d diagram from the side so that I get an elevation view with dimensions?" => this feature is called "Elevation view" but this feature is not part of your program. You can see the different programs and features in this chart"

I really have to get the Premium version for a simple elevation view?

Hi there,

Thank you for buying my eBook and glad to know that it helped! :-)

1 - As per your first post, I understand that the floor thickness is 20". If the floor "Working Elevation" is 1'-2" (14"), then the floor "Object Elevation" is -6". Therefore, the deck should be following the same parameters => "Working Elevation" = 1'-2" (14"), and deck "Object Elevation" = -6".
Re: the stairs => check if you included the thickness and check if it has the correct extension and layout (you can see "how do I calculate and layout stairs?" => page 94 of my eBook)
If the problem is different, please, post an image showing the issue. If you wish to post images --> follow these steps:
- upload your picture to a free online photo album like Photobucket or Flickr or Picassa, for example
- Look for the link of your picture (usually, photo albums provide a "link for a forum" script) --> copy the full URL --> Paste the link in your post.

2 - Elevation View => you can see a side view of your project using 3D => 3D Navigation => Front View, Back view, etc. but without dimensions. In order to create a 2D elevation with dimensions, you'll need the Elevation View mode, as I stated in my answer.
Regarding the programs and options: as you probably know, this Forum is user to user (I am a Punch user like you), so I can't help you with your question regarding sales and upgrades. I'd suggest to call the sales dept (is free) or contact them by email, so they can tell you if there is any additional option.
