Hi there,

You can open your V14 project using V17.7 and continue your work.
For example, the topography elements that you create using V14 will be the same elements, but V17.7.
You don't need to start again because you will get the same results.

Just an additional note: the Punch programs' compatibility works following the ascendant version number. This means that old files are compatible with new versions but this doesn't work backwards.
Therefore, a file elaborated with V17 can be opened with V17.7 for example, but if you save the file with V17.7 it will not open with V14.

Thanks, that will save some work. One of the reasons I asked was that I saw in your ebook Learning Punch Software Training , Tools & Tutorials starting on page 21 about Elevations in versions 17.5 and up. Wondered if this would make working with elevations easier. I assume that does not apply with a file created in an earlier version.

Hi there,

thank you for buying my e-book! :-)

Yes, if you open your V14 file using your V17.7 program, the menus for the Elevation management will look exactly as the ones shown in the pages # 21, #22 and # 23 of my e-book, because the file will be converted to 17.7 and therefore, will feature the same characteristics, components, etc. of a file developed from scratch with V17.7.

Notice that, if your V14 file has custom materials, you need to install the textures in your new program.

Thanks. This program seems even smarter than I thought to be able to convert the old file to use new features.
Your ebook is very helpful.
Just one other question for now -- I do not understand the "Building Pad". I have seen it mentioned before and see on one of the Landscape screens a button that reads "Convert to Building Pad" , but I can not find more info on it.

Glad to know that you find my e-book helpful :-)

A building pad is one of the topography entities. It works like a a topo area, but with a difference => it remains always flat.
You can see more about the building pad, including the image on page 103 of my e-book
