Hi there,

Punch, as any program, has a learning curve. The best way to learn the program, IMO, is practice + practice + practice =>
Read and follow the manual (this is important), see the videos => try to create elements not related with your project, so you will become familiar with the commands and how to develop the different components. In addition, AS 5000 is a very old program, in my experience, some settings don't work with the current hardware.
You can calculate the partial area by drawing a manual floor excluding the garage => select the floor => properties bar => calculate area.
In Punch, it is very important to link the walls correctly. As a general rule, if you join the walls using the arrow keys, for example, the spaces are not well defined, so the dimensions that you see in the room label and the spacing wall dimensions will be different. However, if you link the walls using the mouse, the walls will be "fused" and all the dimensions will show the same values.

Old software seems appropriate as I am not young! I upgraded from AS3000 and frankly found the old one had better features, so it is doubtful I would pay hundreds to upgrade to something I might like even less.
I do use the mouse for all walls and even when blown up so the wall junction is huge, the wall segments are perfect. For what ever reason, the floor and foundation plans don't believe it and I guess I am just stuck. I will try the hint you gave.

I an not in the least new to Punch and designed two houses, but a couple of years apart.

So what would I like better about the newest version??

Thanks again for your help and such a prompt reply.

Hi there,

AS 5000 was released in 2007 so, if you upgraded your program, it was long time ago.... :-)

New versions => You can see the available features, programs and versions in this chart
