Hi there,

Punch is a 3D Home Design program, not a building program. The concepts are different.
In Punch, you can specify the type of framing, type of bricks, etc. and get the BOM using the Estimator Power Tool. But, note that you will get the sq. ft of brick walls, but not the amount of sand.
The Punch programs' compatibility works following the ascendant version number. This means that the old files are compatible with new versions but this doesn't work backwards.
Therefore, a file elaborated with V12 can be opened with V18, for example, but if you save the file with V18 it will not open with V12.

Thanks for the info. I am looking into some solid model software for laying out the wall using a model of the actual block. I want to add a photo of the block pattern to the Materials list using Material Modifier, and store in my custom library, where then I could add a Landscape retaining wall and apply my own custom material to the wall to visualize how it would really look with the house, plants, etc. - Except I can't find how to add a photo of my favorite block or brick to create a custom material - Can one add a photo of their material using the Material Modifier? Thanks in Advance.

Hi there,

Using V12, materials can be imported using the Punch Material Workshop Power Tool.
Anyway, notice that the V12 programs are very old and limited (current version is V18).

Hello Patrica - Is the Punch Materials Workshop Power Tool the same as the Material Modifier Tool? - My V12 manual is called Landscape Deck & Patio Designer Users Guide (2007): Chapter 28. "Material Modifier" has 3 pages on this powertool - It expains how to Open, Save, Upgrade materials where I can only change the color and size of existing materials and then resave under a new material name. Nothing on how to import a photo to create a new material. Perhaps I am missing something? Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Not all the programs have the same tools and features => The Material Modifier Power tool and the Material Workshop Power Tool are two different tools.

If your program includes the Material Modifier Power tool, you can't import new materials, just modify the materials in the libraries.

If your program includes the Material Workshop Power Tool => you can import new materials => open the tool => open new image => Save to library => materials => select your category or create a new category.

Hi there,

V12 was the last version with the Material Workshop Power Tool.
In order to import a new material with a V18 version => File => Import => Material to library
You can see all the features of the programs in this chart

If I am understanding correctly, all of the V18 programs have the File => Import => Material to Library capability? (Not sure which feature in the list it would be under). If this is the case, I will order the V18 version of Deck and Patio tomorrow.

Hello Patricia,

I called the 800 number listed yesterday, the operator was familiar with the product and was able to get me an answer to my question while on the phone. I ordered the download version 18 of Landscape Deck and Patio, installed it on my W7 Dell Studio Laptop and can verify that it does accept photos to create new textures. Also ordered the e-book and skimmed through this as well as the program tutorials. I will report on my conversion results from V12 to V18 when I am done with my current project, but so far I can state V18, along with the much improved documentation, is a definite improvement!

Hi

I downloaded the App for MAC, Punch Landscape Design 19.

When using landscape tools, there are not "materials" in the fill dropdown on top right, just have the following in dropdown: 2D,3D, plants and Templates

Help please

Thanks
Andre

Hi Andre,

The materials can be applied only in 3D, so the Materials library can be accessed only if a 3D View window is opened.
