Hi there,

The Power Tool that your are mentioning is the "PhotoView Editor Power Tool".

As I stated previously, not all the Punch products contain the same features. You can see the features in this chart
http://www.punchsoftware...ion-is-right-for-me.aspx

In the user manual, at the beginning of each chapter, there is note "Please note that not all features in this User’s Guide are available in every Punch! Software title. Some features, Reflections, for example, are available only in Punch! Professional and Architectural Series."
This is the reason why you can see the description of the tool in the manual but the tool is not included with your title.

You can mask your picture (before you import it in Punch) using any drawing program. MS Paint for example. In my Facebook page (see link below) you will find links for other free drawing programs.

Hi patricia

When I check the various versions - they all have the photo view but when i go into the more info tab it doesn't give the actual details of the photo view..Which program offers this feature,,I am guessing it is the architectural series or the pro landscape version... and I will buy your e book.. i do need to use the workshop..

Thanks

Hi there,

There are 2 different power tools: one is the "PhotoView Power Tool" (with this tool you import / insert the picture) and the 2nd is the "PhotoView Editor Power Tool" (with this tool you mask the picture before you import it) => this tool is included with 4 Punch titles
See attached
A tip => this weekend, Punch is offering the Labor Day Sale => 40% off everything, including the programs and my e-book

Hope this helps

Hi there,

You're welcome! :-)

Yes, indeed. Mask and change the picture as necessary with the Photo View Editor Power Tool => File => save as BMP => Close the program => Open your Premium program => Open the Photo View Power Tool => Import your masked picture

Hi there,

The overlay mask is not related here.
Just import the masked picture (bmp file), as stated.

As I explained, my ebooks include step by step tutorials, quite different from the manual.

Hi Patricia

I purchased your e book. and found this under the chapter related to editing photoview => It is not an editable 3D element: for example, if you are importing a picture of a house, you can’t add
or delete doors or windows, you can’t change the color of the siding, etc. Any modification to the picture
must be developed before you import it" So punch can't change siding colors. I thought if I imported a picture of my house I could change the materials using the materials too. Am I not reading this properly.
What I am understanding from this is that with punch I can't upload my house photo and change the siding to brick or add brick to the siding or change the colour of the siding.. this has to be done before I upload the photos..if this is correct then I have wasted over 3 days trying to do something that is not possible. let me know if I am just a having a brain freeze or something..

Thanks

Hi there,

I think that you are mixing Punch's different features.
Punch is a Home Design program, therefore, in order to create a 3D model, you need to use walls, floors, roofs, etc. Doors and windows can be part of the 3D model.
When you import a picture of a house, the picture works like a board, so it is not a 3D model. This means a static picture, however, as you specifically asked and specifically I answered, you can mask and change the picture before you import it. Of course, after this you add more elements to the picture.
In my eBook, you will find a tutorial (page 238) explaining how to add elements after you imported the picture.
How to mask and optimizing pictures => page 260
Adding elements to a picture (as accessories) => page 129

To see more examples:
In the images below, I started with a picture inserted in the Punch work space and I added (drag and drop) the Punch objects / plants--> trellis, flowers, landscape elements, etc

http://www.punchhelpers.com/exterior2.html
http://www.punchhelpers.com/exterior3.html
http://www.punchhelpers.com/exterior4.html
http://www.punchhelpers.com/exterior4.html

In the image linked below, the house on the left is a picture. The addition on the right and the shutters are Punch's
http://www.punchhelpers.com/exterior6.html
Hope this helps

Hi

Ok so heres the story,, When i launch the PHOTOVIEW EDITOR it asks me to look in:(ie) Desktop ..etc i choose the house and it shows in the right hand box.. I press OPEN and is shows in PUNCH/PHOTO VIEW EDITOR (housecroppedbmp.bmp)..So tools show Punch logo , file, edit, options view , help.

this is where i get lost..under file (options)
- save image bmp
- open overlay mask
- save overlay mask
- open cusotm color
- save custom color
all goes back to desktop with nothing to upload
then edit options
-view
help etc..

In your edition you use "dot points" to outline your image. I don't think i have that option. I saw your links but i must be a dunce.. just can't seem to get the hang of it at all.

am i just not seeing things properly or uploading image right>

so sorry to keep going back for help!!

I am not sure why you are putting the additional elements. As I stated repeatedly, the overlay mask is not related in this procedure
Just follow these steps, please don't add more elements

Step 1 - Open your PhotoView Editor Power Tool
Step 2 - Open the desired picture
Step 3 - Mask the picture
Step 4 - File => Save as BMP => "mypicture.bmp" (for example)
Step 5 - Close you PhotoView Editor Power Tool
Step 6 - Open your PhotoView Power Tool
Step 7 - Open "mypicture.bmp"

This is the complete process
Of course you have the dot points, they are present in all the versions: as you have my eBook, I'd suggest to follow the tutorial (pages 382 and 383)

HI

I am following your advice step 1 is ok I open the photo view editor
step 2 is ok i open the image I want from my desktop

Step 3 masking is where i just can't seem to get it at all..I follow your instructions on the said pages, printed them off ..
There is no solid black background..the points are not like yours they are in the shape of square, circle, polygon, multigon or curve they maske hte entire image for clor fill and not in black..I have been at this for over a week ..is there a visual tutorial somewhere i even tried you tube but nothing came up..maybe i should just try PAINT..might be easier to learn..

I really appreciate your help and you have been great ..i just can't seem to get it..

Hi there,

I am glad to know the the steps 1 and 2 worked, however, re: the masking process, again, you are mixing features.
The square, circle, polygon, multigon or curve are tools, not points => these tools are explained in the page 381 of my ebook.

The red points explained and shown in my ebook tutorials are the handles. The handles are defined by the places you left click the mouse when you are outlining the image. In my ebook, you can see the image and follow the step by step instructions at page 382.
If you have problems using the PhotoView Editor Power Tool, you can use other graphic programs (Photoshop,Paintshop Pro, Photoimact, CorelDraw, serif, etc). They have user's guides about masking pictures. However, as I commented previously, in order to make changes, note that Punch is a Home Design program, so your best option is the development of a 3D model, so you can drag and drop materials, windows, etc

Hi

Each time I try to add materials in the "walk thru" mode.. it goes everywhere except where i want it.or just doesn't go onto anything. The only way I can add materials, paint, trims etc. is if i do a split screen or full screen with overhead 3d view. I can add trims, paint, etc. but it is very hard to change items close to the floor (ie) toe kicks on cabinets. Any solutions.. thanks

Hi there,

regarding the problems that you are experiencing, and in particular the colors and materials issues, there are two separated issues (and it is very important to clarify the differences)

Issue type 1 - The textures going to the grass or the sky or disappearing --> this may be a videocard issue and it is independent of how or where you apply the texture.
Try these steps
1 - Check the website of your video card manufacturer and update the drivers

2 - Go to the video setup on your PC (may be different for different versions of Windows and video card); for most, click on an empty part of the windows Desktop, click on Settings->Advanced->Troubleshoot). Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem disappears.

3 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK

4 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color")

5 - Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113 , and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer. I think that your videocard won't accept the new version (11)

Now, if you the accelerations controls are not available, go to the control panel of your video card --> performance --> move the control and set down the performance. This may help.

You'll find several discussions about this here--> search with the keywords "black screen" or "frozen image" or "texture going to the grass" or "texture going to the sky" perform a search with the words "sky + texture" or "grass + texture". You will see that many users solved their rendering problems by adjusting the video settings.

Issue type 2 - There are few tricks to apply the textures
1 - Try to set the position of the little man close to the surface you wish to apply texture or color, however, you don't need to be on the floor to texture a floor, for example. If there is not an interference, you can even apply a texture from the chopper
2 - If the room elevation is under the 0.00 level--> the little man elevation must be also under the 0.00 level
3 - Doors and windows--> apply the color / texture on the surfaces parallel with the wall where the door / window is installed.

Hi there. I just got Punch, Premium v18, and cannot figure out how to upload a photo of a home so I can change the exterior. This is one of the main reasons I purchased this program. I wanted visuals of how the exterior could be changed. Please help. The photo is in PNG or JPG format. Thanks
