You are trying to get something like the attached image correct?

If so you have to do some shenanigans.
Change that wall back to a normal wall so it has a flat top.
Switch to the floor above. (3rd floor in your case)
Draw a new wall where the gable section should be and set it to a gable type.
Change the height of each side to 1".
Now you'll have just a gable section you can apply different materials to.
I sometimes use crown trim on the lower wall to create a divider line between the two.

You may have to zoom in and nudge the wall around to get it lined up perfectly with the wall on the floor below. You can use the arrow keys on the keyboard to bump it around.
