Hi there,

I saw this issue once, long time ago. Unfortunately, some 3DS files are generated by low quality programs or as 3DS with solid mesh. For these reasons, once these objects are imported in Punch, you are creating a POB with several POBs, hence the new size (15 Mb).

If I remember correctly, you have Accutrans, right? If so, try to Merge Vertices and Join Polylines (Tools 1)
Another option => group the areas first and reduce the polygons after => import the parts separately.
Again, keep in mind that these objects are developed by other programs, so I am not sure if these solutions are going to work.

Hi,
Had our property surveyed and asked surveyor if he could send me a DXF/DWG, 3DS or SketchUp file to import. He asked if Punch could support AutoCAD civil3d 2018 files. I'm using Arch Series 18.0.1.1015 will there be an issue?

Thanks

Hi there,

As you stated, Punch import just 3 formats (DXF/DWG, 3DS or SketchUp)
In your case, you have 2 options to import the topography:
2D => you can import a 2D DXF / DWG file => select the topo lines and convert to topography elements.
In this case, use this tutorial in my website:
http://www.punchhelpers.com/acadtutorial.html

3D: you can import the topography as a 3DS object (Autocad exports to 3DS). Notice that it will be just an object (like a chair) so you won't be able to use Punch's topography tools.
To import 3DS files, use this tutorial in my website:
