Hi ted burke

Yes you can.

If you have Platinum 4.5.1.--> right click on the wall--> select Dimension wall center or Dimension wall surface

If you have Platinum V8--> properties bar--> in the bottom--> select surface instead of center

Lets us know if you need additional help

Thanks. It worked fine. Is there anyway to change a default so all future drawn walls will be dimensioned to the surface?

Thanks

Hi ted burke, Nope, unfortunately you must set this option for each wall Patricia

The usual advice does not appear to work for me. No amount of selecting the wall, then choosing 'surface' will give me a surface to surface dimension. After 3 hours and every possible permutation, what can I be missing? The 'center' dimension is always exactly the same as the 'surface' dimension, and the end caps of the dimension line never fall on the surface...they always fall in the middle of the wall. Wall thickness and style choices have no effect; foundation converted to interior walls has no effect. Toggling between the 'center' and 'surface' options has no effect. I have Pro Home Design Platinum v.8. Does anyone have an idea on this one? Many thanks!

Hi Anthony Majoros,

Some notes
- If you have Platinum V8,in order to change the properties, go to the properties bar --> after you enter each one of the wall properties or dimensions you need to press the enter key in your keyboard
Regarding the center / surfaces issue: you must select each wall and modify the reference from center to surface. This setting doesn't work for all the plan, you must change each wall separately or select several walls (pressing Shift during the selection)

Hope this helps

I've consistently had the same problem. Both walls have "surfaces" selected, but still when I use Dimension Wall Spacing it measures from the centers.

Hi curtis-r,

The Dimension Wall Spacing has its own settings and they are not related with the wall dims' settings.
Select the dim --> preview bar in V8 (or right click in V4.5.1.) --> surfaces

Don't forget the selection step, because the Dimension Wall Spacing will not change if you don't select it

If you have V8, once you change the first dim , the Dimension Wall Spacing will remain in "surfaces" for the current drawing

Hope this helps
