Hi all,

I do not understand clearly the difference between Library Paneling and Wainscot.

I believe that "Library" here means a room where I'm happy to smoke a cigar in front of my fireplace, with a good ol' Bourbon in hand and my cat/Labrador on my knees, listening the latest Creedence Clearwater Revival LP. Not the IT term, right?

So, "wainscot" are pieces of parallel flat wood blades (such like in a chalet in Montana), starting from the ceiling, and library panels are panels of flat wood with squares, starting from the floor. Is that right as the only difference?

Can I easily change the heigth of my paneling to cover all my walls (and do the same with wainscot if I prefer wainscoting to paneling) with the Trim Designer Power Tool as explained in Patricia's eBook p. 214?

Hi there,

Not a nice library room, unfortunately... unless you create it in Punch. BigGrin

In the Punch context, "Library" means "collection" or "contents", so the Trim category includes 3 libraries => Base trim, Crown Trim and Paneling (not sure why the programmers wrote Library Paneling instead of Paneling Library RollEyes )

In this context, wainscot and panels both start from the floor, let's say as "tall baseboards or trims". The difference (in Punch) => by defaults, the wainscot elements are flat, the paneling look like interlocked pieces of wood. Actually, the wainscot can be used for exterior / interiors.
With your program, you can use the Trim Designer Power Tool and create a custom wainscot, add a border, etc.

A few examples:

Paneling (interior)

Flat wainscot (interior)

Flat wainscot (exterior)

Custom wainscot (interior)

Yes, you can easily modify the height, shape, thickness of any trim or wainscot (or create your own) using the Trim Designer Power Tool (Page 430 of my eBook)

The Manual for v20 sez (p. 88):

"The Library Paneling library includes various heights of paneling to apply to your design."

Hi Didier,

Not sure what do you mean? There are different heights in the paneling library. See image attached.
keep in mind that the person that wrote the manual is not the same that set the titles in the program.

I think the first word "Library" in "Library paneling Library" refers to that particular room I described above. It is not a writer error. And the second one is the IT concept of library.

In summary, I believe we have this:

Trim

Base Trim library
- wainscot (lower part of wall)
- Wall trim (along the floor) (exclusive with wainscot, we can't have both)
- Windows and Doors casing

Crown Trim library
- wainscot (upper part)
- Wall trim (along the ceiling)
- Windows and Doors casing (why twice? dunno)

Library Paneling library
- "Library-look" Panels (lower part)

In the QuickPalette editing dialog box, one can see "Library Paneling"
(I Love the QuickPalettes, it is a wonderful idea!)

As I'm readproofing the entire manual (v19 in French), fixing text (sometimes retranslating) and updating each and every screen copy (most of them are obsolete), it takes time!

I also check against the v20 manual, so that I can add footpage notes should I find any differences or new features on the subjects.
