Hi wieza,

Yes, but partially. As Lightwave imports DXF, you'll be able to export your plan to DXF and then import it into Lightwave. But Punch exports just 2D DXF. So you can't directly import the 3D object.
Punch files (3D) can be exported as VRML files, but Lightwave doesn't import them (it just exports them)

Regards,

Patricia

Is there a way to export the floor plan and/or const drawings to BMP or some other type file so it can be imported into Paint, Photoshop elements or some file a person without Punch could open? Thanks Jim

Hi Jim,

There are several ways to do it:

1- Print the plan, scan it, and save it as *.jpg, *.bmp, etc.

2- Visualize your plan, make a screen shot: Print Screen-->Go to MS Paint-->Paste--> Trim the image--> Save as *.jpg, *.bmp, etc.

3- If you are an Adobe user, you probably have the Acrobat writer installed as a Printer option of your computer.
So, you can convert a file (Punch, Word, Excel, etc.) into a PDF document. In Punch, you can save the plan as a PDF file . (Print to fit page-->print to file-->myplan.pdf).
You can open this document with Adobe Acrobat or Photoshop (and other programs). Use File-->open-->myplan.pdf or import the image Import-->PDF image-->myplan.pdf

Hope this helps

I just purchased the Professional Home Design Suite with the desire to create a model and export the DXF into another render program. But above, I see mention of the program exporting DXF only in 2D format. Sorry to be slow, but what does that mean to the final "model"? Can you give an example of what a final DXF will look like? (an image, perhaps?) I don't want to open this box until I am certain the program is capable of doing what I need it to do.

Hi TygerCub,

All the Punch versions export just 2D files, this means just the floorplans. Punch Pro exports only the walls' contour, without text or dimensions, and it is not scaled. If you upgrade to AS 18 or AS 3000, you'll be able to export just the floorplan, with more details. The image attached is from a plan exported with AS 18.

Hope this helps

Patricia, I've tried your suggestion to open a Punch print to file with my Adobe software. I named the file with a pdf extension but neither my Adobe Acrobat Reader nor my Adobe Photo Deluxe program can open the file. Do I need another Adobe program? Kimo

Hi Kimo,

First, you need to convert your PRO file into a PDF file. If you have the Adobe Photo Deluxe in your computer, you can export PRO files to PDF.

- Open your Punch plan
- File --> (choose your print option -> print to fit page, to scale, etc)
- Select if you wish color printing
- Then you will see a screen like the one in the image attached
- Select Adobe PDF as you printer
- Name the file (myplan.pdf or other name) and the location where you are going to save the file
- Click OK

Close Punch and open Adobe Photo deluxe-> Open-> Open File

Let us know if you need more help

Patricia, Thanks for the info. I tried your suggestion but my print screen doesn't show Adobe PDF as a print choice. I've tried printing to a file and naming the file with a pdf extension but Adobe Photo Deluxe cannot open it. It seems that your suggestion requires defining an Adobe PDF Writer as a printer but I don't have that capability. Maybe I'm missing something? Kimo

Hi Kimo,

Rename the file doesn't help, it is not the way how Adobe works
I have three versions of Adobe Photo Deluxe (V1; V1.1 and V 4.1) and all of them have the Adobe Writer capability. This is an automatic feature of the software.
Probably you have a problem with the Adobe installation.
Try to uninstall and install it again, and be sure to install ALL the Adobe patches (several). Also, if you have Windows XP professional, be sure about the administrator privileges

Hope this helps!

Patricia, Thanks for your help to this point. After analyzing my version of PhotoDeluxe I find that it is Home Edition version 3.1. In checking with Adobe tech support I'm told that it actually does not have the Acrobat Writer capability, but that capability is available in an upgrade to Photoshop Element for $69. I'm not sure I really need to go to that expense in order to get the floor plans in a format that will enable me to email them to a friend. If you have any other suggestion for an emailable format for the Punch floor plans I'd appreciate hearing about it. Kimo

Hi Kimo,

Two options:

1- Print the plan, scan it, and save it as *.jpg, *.bmp, etc.

2- Visualize your plan, make a screen shot: Print Screen-->Go to MS Paint-->Paste--> Trim the image--> Save as *.jpg, *.bmp, etc.

Hope this helps!
