Not sure if I understand your question, can you post a screenshot or other image of the problem ?(you can post a link to photobucket or other free site)

In order to gain more usable floor space in an attic area, I have created a 3' second story above a garage. I have placed a 12:12 gable roof over this second story so the eves rest on the 3' wall. The gable ends of the space have been created with sides A and C at 3'. I am trying to place a dormer on the roof that is 5' tall (thus equalling an 8' roof height inside the attic space. The dormer side wall tools can be used to create the side walls but I am unable to place a roof opening in the 12:12 roof so the dormer can be seen from the inside. I do not know how to create a "screen shot" of this problem, but am open to guidance.

Hi 71rams,

OK, the easy way is using the roof cutout tool, however, in other post you described that the cutout is in two different roof pieces. The only option, as I stated in my answer

is the addition of points (see the + sign the snap tool bar, right of the screen)

To do a screenshot--> set the image in your screen--> press the Print screen key--> Go to MSPaint or other graphic program--> Paste--> Save As--> "yourfile.jpg" or bmp, etc
