Hi Jim Benson

These are some resources to open your Punch plans (any version) with Photoshop Elements

1 - You can export your scaled floorplan to DXF/DWG in most versions and Export to DXF/DWG with versions 7.x, and up --> use Power Tools--> DXF / DWG Exporter--> use a Cad program or Irfanview (is free)to convert it to jpg

2 - Print the plan, scan it, and save it as *.jpg, *.bmp, etc. If you print to fit the page, the drawing will be not scaled

3 - Visualize your plan, and take a shot of the screen--> Print Screen-->Go to MS Paint-->Paste--> Trim the image--> Save as *.jpg, *.bmp, etc. Note--> this method doesn't provide scaled plans

4 - If you have a PDF writer, you can create your own scaled PDF files. Just follow this short tutorial
http://www.punchhelpers.com/pdfprint.html
There are many free PDF writers, go to www. download.com and perform a search with the keyword "free PDF"--> You can create a jpg from the PDF or simply open the PDF with Photoshop Elements (File--> Import--> PDF image)
You can see a tutorial to convert Punch plans to PDF in this tutorial in my website
http://www.punchhelpers.com/pdfprint.html

5 - Other interesting (and free) resource is the DWF conversion. You can download the DWF writer for free in the Autodesk page and it works in the same way that the PDF writer. The recipient needs to install the DWF viewer (it is free, and the printing companies use it)
You can see more info about DWF printing in this page of my website
http://www.punchhelpers.com/dwffiles.html

To print the floors separately, select View Working floor only. To Export the floors separately, you must create a file for each floor

Hi Patricia, Thanks for the reply. It is a bit disappointing that I cannot make a jpeg with the program. I was under the impression that that was possible when I purchased Punch, and the export menus do suggest that it is somehow possible. However, I'll deal with the situation as it is, as opposed to how I wish it was. It sounds like getting a DXF/DWG to JPEG conversion program is the best way to go. Downloading freeware or any other program is not an option for me. My main computer, where I do most of ny graphics and all my other important work goes nowhere near the internet, and I don't send anything back to that computer either. I have a specific computer for the internet, usually my second oldest at any given time. I don't mind purchasing a reasonably priced program if that's what it takes, but it would have to be something that provided a copy of the program on DVD or CD. From the reading I've done, some may be better than others in terms of being able to specify line widths etc, and in translating text clearly. There is also at least one which seems to allow choice in background color. My prioritys for a program are as follows: 1) Available in DVD or CD format as opposed to download. 2) Ability to set line widths in the JPEG version if necessary. 3) Clear depiction of text in the JPEG version 4) The ability to set background color Any knowlege or recommendations you might have would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim Benson

Hi Jim Benson,

I'd suggest Paint Shop Pro Photo X2. It is a great graphic program and in addition, it also opens DWG and DXF files

I don't understand the problem you guys are having with JPEG?? In 5000 you just click on FILE, EXPORT 3D, LIVE VIEW IMAGE and then select from the half dozen formats, including JPEG, BMP, and WMF. Another easy way is to use Adobe Acrobat. Print to Adobe pdf and save. In Adobe you can save back as a jpeg file. Of coures this being Punch you go have lunch and maybe it is finished when you come back. (I thought i did JPEG files the same way before with 4000?) By the way. Does anyone know of any sources for furniture for Punch that is less than 50 years old?

Hi Chisholm,

Hmmm.... let me clarify this, to avoid confussions :-)
The steps you are describing are valid if you wish to Export a 3D image, this means a image generated with the Liveview feature. And, of course, this process and format options are available not only in AS 5000 but in all the current Punch versions (old versions exported only to BMP)
However, if you read the request of Mr Jim Benson (above), his goal is "to take a plan and turn it into a jpeg", so he is trying to convert the 2D floorplan and not the 3D liveview image
PDFs--> yes,, as I stated, PDF is a good option, for floorplans and liveview images. The time requested for a PDF file (in liveview) doesn't depend of the PDF format but of the time requested for rendering process

Furniture--> Once you have AS 5000, you can import objects with several formats using the 3D Workshop Pro
This is good website to download modern furniture in 3D
