Hi Michel carrière,

I am not sure about your version... I don't think there is (or was) a V5.1 version. Are you sure that this is the name and version of the program? Is it an US / Canadian version?

Regarding the curved shapes, check this post

Probably, I'll have some additional tips, but I'd need to know exactly what version are you using

Hi Patricia, You're right some things are missing. I bought this program at around 2002 in a store. the title is Professional home design platinum and after several months I downloaded the patch correcting the bugs and missing tools and that's why the version became v 5.1. Effectively, it's an u.s / cnd version. Finaly I'm from Montreal, Quebec,Canada.

Hi Patricia I saw a reference from you about arch and I saw exactely the situation I've spoken when I've seen your rendering showing several arch with big columns. pay attention on the moulding rings of the column : it's not smooth. That's why I think it's possible to correct this with photoshop. Did you do that ring with revolve?

Hi Michel carrière

Yes, 4.5.1. is a valid version of Punch Platinum, however, is a rather old version. The V12 workshop, present in the Platinum V12 version has many improvements, including the capability of importing 3ds objects

Do you mean this image?

This image was developed back in 2004 with Punch AS 18 V6, so I am sure that the resources were limited. Yes I used the revolve tool and yes, the ring is not smooth. This effect is clearly explained in Lyle's post (link above)

Now, check the columns in this image
http://www.punchhelpers.com/residential6.html
These columns are 3DS objects imported in Punch

Hi Patricia, you were for me very helpful and I learned very much from you. Effectively, I saw all the galery about the arch an columns and you put me very impressed, specialy the plazza with some peoples on. I know with my old stuff,I think it's impossible to put them. Anyway,I'm foreseeing to change to as5000, the top! And so, I paid attention about your previous link treating about video cards and I took note of the model of your new card. I'm searching the best way to get speed because my projects are very heavy (full of stuff) I draw a manor and the time of rendering to ready to print (on my old computer ) was been from20 min to half an hour!!! Just a last thing: when I installing my v 4.5 from the cd there's a galery of pictures and all the rendering are impressive, clear and perfect. Is it because they had received some touch up? Thanks so lot! Michel

Hi Michel carrière,

You're welcome. Glad to know that I helped! :-)

Do you mean this image?

It was developed with Punch AS 4000 V8, but notice that the columns and accessories are discs, not torus.
I don't think the images in the program CD are "retouched", but as you know, I don't work for Punch, so I don't know for sure

Very impressive! On the side, on as5000 should be possible to have reflexion such as metalic, glass effect on windows, chrome finish effect? I hope you see what I mean. On my old version I had a trick (on work shop) to make drapes an curtains but almost veils (net curtains) I said almost because it was possible to put them translucent but only on work shop and became solid as a drape on 3d view. could it be possible to design these veils on as5000? thanks for all, Michel.

Hi Michel carrière,

regarding your questions about as5000, check these images

http://www.punchhelpers.com/commercial4.html
you can see the metal reflections--> using just textures

http://www.punchhelpers.com/residential19.html
the floor reflections, curtains, translucent effects are Punch's features

Hi Patricia, I still no breath, I'm completely and defenitively conquished about this version. Finaly, to get a short story, I must run with the most powerfull single core ht processor plus the most powerfull vc(but not "gamer series")a lot of memory, but should it usefull to have raid 2,4or else system? If I understand the principle, the raid system is 2 or 4 hard disk working simultaneously but I'm not sure if it's so usefull or if it's doing the job. Friendly, Michel.

Hi Michel,

Glad to know you liked the effects :-)
Hardware is not my specialty (I am an architect) so I can't give you an answer regarding the raid 2 issue
The specs you mentioned are OK, just keep in mind that onboard vc (embedded with the motherboard) have a poor performance in Punch compared with a separated video card
IMO, the ATI videocards are better than Nvidia cards.
