Can an AVI file be played on another computer that doesn't have Punch installed? It plays fine in my Window Media Player, but I can't burn a copy onto a CD of DVD.

Hi RonAustin,

an AVI file is video file, is the video format used by Punch to export the Animator PT files but it is not a proprietary Punch file
You can play it in any computer, as you can see in this example
http://www.punchhelpers.com/avitest

I sent CDs and DVDs with AVI files to my customers all the time and without problems. Can you describe the problem when you try to burn the CD / DVD? or can you burn but you can't play?

When I exported a file after I designed a path I can only see the fade portions at the beginning and at the end of the total path I cannot see the segments what can I do to see the whole path?

Hi Ricardo,

there are several reasons for this issue, but in order to narrow the problem, I need some additional information
- Please include the title, version, and platform you are using. On the PC you will find this info in the main menu->Help->About…
- Some issues can be related to hardware you are using. Please post any information you have on your system (operating system, video card, etc).
- In addition, please, inform the size of your file

Hi Ricardo

there are 3 aspects regarding this issue
- Program: the V10 program is very old (current version is V17.5) so perhaps some current drivers don't work with an old program.
- Video card: You have a video chip, integrated with the motherboard. As a general rule if you have an onboard video card you don't have dedicated video memory--> therefore as your processor is consuming resources for rendering calculations, you've low resources for graphic purposes, because they are shared resources. So, in this case, you can't see the rendered images.
What do you get between the 2 fade segments? a black screen?
- Animator settings: usually the animator issues are related with the settings of the animation tool, specifically with the Segment Length (time in seconds, first setting in the right bar) --> comparing this issue with a real life movie --> if you are recording a movie with a 10 ft path and you walk very fast (doing it in 5 seconds, for example) you will run and the movie will be "jumpy", but if you walk slowly, the camera will "flow"
Of course, as you increase the time for each segment, the rendering time will be higher

In the meantime, check this sample elaborated with the Animator. Notice that this movie was edited after Punch, to add music. As it is a big file, depending of your connection, it may take few minutes to load.

Thankyou Patricia for your response bad news for me having an old version the video that you mention is great i would like to do something similar .regarding your question the image that i have in the midle of the fading portions is a frozzen image with some blinking once in a while but i can see the last frames of the path at the end of the file when fading again at the last portion.
is there any way that i can upgrade my software to v17 ? do you think this can solve this issue ?

Ricardo,

You're welcome! :-)
Let's try to narrow the problem and see if there is a solution
Close your file for now.
Open a new and empty file => draw just one simple wall => create an animation with just one segment with length= 10 seconds => let me know if this animation works

Hi Ricardo,

Let's try these maintenance steps:

1 - Check the website of your video card manufacturer and update the drivers

2 - Go to the video setup on your PC (may be different for different versions of Windows and video card); for most, click on an empty part of the windows Desktop, click on Settings->Advanced->Troubleshoot). Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem disappears.

3 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK

4 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color")

5 - Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113 , and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer

6 - Some NVidia card users reported additional problems--> in this case change the color settings from 32 bit to 16 bit

Now, if you the accelerations controls are not available, this means that you don't have a dedicated memory for video. In this case, go to the control panel of your video chip / adapter --> performance --> move the control and set down the performance. This may help

After all these steps, try to create an animation with the file containing just one wall

Hi Ricardo,

You're welcome!:-)

The file is not important now. The problem is inside the computer. I'd need some additional information
- Can you tell me the version number of your program V7, V10, etc. You will find this info in Help -> about
- Can you tell me the specs and type of processor as well as the memory RAM capability that you have?
- Go to your Control Panel, then to your Language Settings. Can you inform the default language?

Also, please, run Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/

and also Spybot
http://www.safer-networking.org/

(yes, run both, because they find different things)

Let me know

Ricardo,

Did you run Malwarebytes and Spybot? What did they find?

Also, in order to check the vc state and memory leaking: can you please try to play a game in your computer? if you don't have any game, go to Game tab of your computer and try to play Chess or Solitaire

2 objects were detected with MalwareBytes and i deleted: PUP.Optional.Softonic.A (File) and PUP.Optional.Delta.A (Registry Key).
With SpyBot i can see a similar Delta toolbar Registry Key what i noticed is that this "bug" can not be removed after i rescaned with SpyBot for more than three times do you think this is the cause of my problem ? I make a new 10 sec file but still i can not see it all the way.

Hi Ricardo,

Probably, but I need the last test that I asked: can you try to play a game in your computer?

Hi Ricardo,

OK, this is what I think: as you saw, you have two issues in your computer. You delete them and they appear again. This means that one (or several) programs resident in your computer are infected with a virus. As they are acting all the time, you delete the virus and it appears again
Why this is important?: because when the virus is acting, it is using your computer processor and memory, so you can't create an animation because the virus is using all the resources, specially the memory: this is called "memory leak"
My suggestion is that you try to contact the manufacturers of malwarebytes (they answer the emails very fast) and ask for help to remove the two issues in your computer. They will be able to tell you the name of the infected program(s). Unfortunately, virus and Trojans are not my field (I am just an Architect).
Also, try to verify the resources manager, in order to check the available memory to run Punch
Hope this helps
