Jack Caranci, Well, the first thing is that sometimes, the error messages don't describe the problem accurately. DXF files can be created with Autocad, Microstation, Archicad, 3D max or "whatsthename CAD". This doesn't make difference for the Punch DXF Importer. The only difference I can think is if you are trying to import a 3D file. Be aware that Punch only imports 2D files My suggestion: try my tutorial http://www.punchhelpers.com/acadtutorial.htmlIf after this, the problem persists, feel free to send me your file and I'll check it Patricia |

I would like to if what are the capbilities of using AS 4000.
I am needing to design a skating ring, just like the ones that hockey player use to play with bleechers and the glass panes inside the surrounding.
I am fairly new to AS 4000. I've used AutoCAD 2002, but I want to know if all this is possible.

I have drawn a floor plan in AS4000 using the wall tools as usual. The designer prefered the plan to show hatched walls instead of the solid lines made in Punch, so I went over the wall sections using the Detail tools.I exported the floor plan in Punch to a folder in DXF & DWG format using the exporter. When I imported them back in to punch, the floor plan was not like the original. It showed up as solid lines again and the measurements were all over the place. Is it possible to draw plans in the cross hatched way and still have the project drawn in 3d as well.
Some help would be great.

Hi Charlie Gauci,
For some reason, Cad elements in Punch seem to have their own rules (with the export / import power tools and printing to PDF) The hatch elaborated with the CAD tools in Punch doesn't make difference in Punch, so if you wish a CAD plan showing hatch patterns, the best option is: export the plan to DWG--> Open it with a CAD program--> Use the "Explode" command--> Hatch the walls. You can print or import back to Punch
Let us know if you need additional help

Just got AS4000, having used AutoCAD for a few years.... I've gone through everything I can find for importing DWG and DXF files (from R2004 AutoCAD) and I seem to have nothing show up in the Importer.
It's just the basement plan for a 2400 sq. ft. home. I've purged blocks and layers down to the most basic. What am I missing?

Hi Ron Edins,
Go to Power Tools--> DXF / DWG Importer (the 15th icon)--> locate your file--> Open
Let us know if you experience problem with this PT

I put everything on one layer, no blocks, no color, no polylines, no luck. I even exported a sample Punch! drawing and tried to import it back from AutoCAD, no luck. Have those little guys in my computer left in protest?
