If the 1st floor walls are 96" high and the 2nd story walls are 96" high, how do you account for a 6" floor between floors? Should the 1st floor walls be 102"?

Why do my 2nd story doors poke through the ceiling of the 1st story.

Hi joe vern,

probably because the elevation of the wall where the doors are is wrong

For example, say your first floor height is 100" then you have the joist and ceiling (say they are 12"), so th elevation of the walls, for the second floor will be 112"

So, check the value of the necessary elevation for the walls in the second floor--> Select the walls in the second floor--> Edit--> Set object elevation--> write the desired elevation

or

Select the walls in the second floor--> right click the elevation slider--> write the desired elevation

or

Select the walls in the second floor--> right click on the piece--> Set elevation--> write the desired elevation

In addition, use Design--> Default ceiling height so Punch knows the right elevation for all the elements in each level

Let us know if you need additional help

I have the same problem that was addressed above, have tried all of the recommened solutions but none have solved the problem. i am working with standard preset elevations. If I try to raise the 'door' 3 inches (the amount is sticking down into the lower floor) then it raised the base of the door above being flush with the top of the floor on the upper floor. Help would be appreaciated if anyone has figured this out.

Hi JLewis, Suppose (in real life) that in your 1st floor, the distance between the floor and ceiling is 96" and in your second floor, the distance between the floor and ceiling is also 96". Then (still in real life) the distance between the finished floor of the 1st level and the finished floor of the second will not be 96": it will be 96"+ the floor structure. Therefore, Punch reflects this difference. In the image # 1 (without structure, using autofloor = 0.5"), you can see the door frame appearing through the ceiling of the 1st floor In the image # 2 (with the floor structure, using autofloor = 12" an estimated thickness, and setting the interior wall accordingly), you can't see the door frame Hope this helps Patricia
