Hi chipw

Assuming you've Punch AS 4000:

1 - Download the objects--> Unzip them in a temporary folder. Say you downloaded a new chair called "ChairX", you'll see 3 files (they are "chairX.POB", "chairX.PPV"and "chairX.POD")
2 - Open Your Punch AS 4000 program--> Go to the Properties bar (right of the screen)--> Objects--> click on the word "objects" or the small triangle close to the name (top of the properties bar)--> the categories will appear--> at the end you'll find the object organizer--> you can add / delete / rename categories--> Create one or more Categories or Sub categories.
3 - Say you created a Category called "New Chairs"--> Go to the Windows Explorer--> Program Files--> Punch AS 4000--> Objects--> Look for the a category "New Chairs"--> From the temporary folder, copy in this category the 3 files related with the object called "ChairX", (as we stated they are "chairX.POB", "chairX.PPV"and "chairX.POD")
4 - Open your Punch program--> Objects--> New Chairs--> Your object is ready to use

Notice that you must create the Categories and Sub categories with the Object Organizer

Thanks, but that all works fine for objects, but not for components. I created a new directory, in Windows/Custom Window Organizer called Bay. closed Punch, added some bay windows files to the new folder, reponed Punch, and in Windows/Custom Window Organizer there is an empty category called Bay, the windows I copied into do not appear. Same thing with some new doors I added to existing doors categories, they don't appear with the original doors.

Hi lizz1b1621,

I guess we have a misunderstanding here. Lets talk about windows, for example, and clarify some concepts (they are valid also for doors)

1 - Punch has standard windows. They are Punch special objects and you can't modify them

2 - In Punch AS 4000, you have also Custom Windows. The Custom Windows icon is the last of the window selection menu. These Custom Windows can be created or modified with the Windows Designer (Power Tools--> Windows Designer). Each Custom Window has 3 files *.PTI (the description), *.PTF (the window) and *.PPV (the thumbnail). These files are located in Program Files--> Punch AS 4000--> Components--> Windows, so I assume that you are talking about these components, right?

3 - The bay window you downloaded is a Punch Object, not a Component, and it is composed also by 3 files--> *.PTI (the description), *.POB (the object) and *.PPV (the thumbnail)

Therefore, the result is that you can't insert a POB file as a component, because it is recognized as object.
Notice that Components are elements with special properties and Punch recognizes these properties as specific properties of that object (like the transparency in a window, for example). But, a window created as POB (Punch Object) has properties just as object

Hope this helps

Okay, I understand now. So even though I have new windows and doors, I don't add them to the existing windows and doors components. I created a new folder called Windows (using Object Organizer), then pasted the files into that folder. Now when I open the Object tab I have a new folder at the bottom called Windows, and my new windows are there. Problem is - they don't work like normal windows, meaning they are not transparent and don't automatically make a hole in the wall. So my bay window is just attached to the outside wall, with the wall finish (stucco) visible through it. I'm sure they must be a way around this, else why would there be downloadable, user created, windows in the first place (they're not actually useable as a window)?

I have the window issue figured out - add the new window object to the appropriate position, then create a 'grill style' window with no grills. Then resize to make it fit inside the new window, in this case a bay window. Takes some fussing around with the elevation, height, and width properties, but it looks decent enough. Now to see what I can do about the doors (probably the same process). thanks for your assistance.

Hi chipw,

As I stated, the bay window is a POB, a Punch object and it has the same properties of a chair, for example. So Punch doesn't know if a POB is a window, a table or an elephant :-)
Therefore, all the *.POB files (Punch Objects) must be in the folder called Objects. The POB (Punch Objects) are elaborated with the Power Tool called 3D workshop, or they are cabinets elaborated with the Cabinet Wizard and exported to the 3D workshop

The Components are special objects because they have special properties, like the transparency in the windows. The windows components are *.PTF files and they can be elaborated only with the Power Tool called Windows Designer. They are located in the folder Program Files--> Punch AS 4000--> Components--> Windows

To add a POB window, you must create the "hole" in the wall with an empty casement and then insert the POB window
