I have just upgraded to Home Design AS4000 after using Super Home Suite for a couple of weeks. I down loaded it over the net. After opening up the program and playing around a little with it I noticed that I am not able to see all of the tabs options. For example, when I open up the Animator and look to the right side where the Segment and Video tabs are I am not able to get to use or see all of the tabs options. For example in the Video tab I can't see anything to the right of Display size box. Its not just a simple matter of maximizing the window or dragging the edge of the screen over to the right more or the 96DPI setting. I do not know what to do. As you can imagine I am anxious to use the software, but I would like to be able to use all of its capabilities. I can send a screen shot if I have some where to send it. Can someone help please. By the way this doesn't only happen in the Animator, other applications it does the same thing. Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott,

You can send me the screenshot, if you wish. Please, send also a screen shot of your Display properties (right click on the wallpaper-> settings)

I am in new territory now. I'm trying to render a 60 sec avi. It's been rendering for about a half hour now. There are no indicators as to how much longer it will take or even if it's doing anything other than the visible XP hour glass and a black screen where my animator live view was . I don't know if I'm hung up or if it's actually working. I've seen some work on this site that was fabulous. Am I missing something or is this just the way it is...sit and wait and hope for the best...ugh! I guess I can go to bed and hope it's done by morning :)

Hi Pat1217

First, two important notes
Screen saver: you must deactivate the screen saver, it interferes with the Animator operation
Browser and other programs: while working with the Animator, you screen must show only the Animator operation. Other programs, including email, browser, etc, must be closed

Regarding the Animator settings, the time depends of several items
- Characteristics of your computer: different configs provide different results, times, etc. Not knowing your configuration, is hard to provide a diagnostic
- Characteristics of the project. A project with lots of 3D objects, topography, etc takes more time to render than a small house in a flat lot
- Animator settings: the frames/second setting, video display size, export quality (all located in the video tab) add work time to the Animator process. Example 25 frames / second will take more time than 15 frames
- Other applications: you must deactivate the screen saver, it interferes with the Animator operation
Browser and other programs: while working with the Animator, you screen must show only the Animator operation. Other programs, including email, browser, etc, must be closed
As the Animator is a sequence of screenshots, all the messages in the screen will be recorder

I'd suggest the creation of a simple movie with 2 or 3 walls and 2 viewpoints and register the times as you add features

As reference: Few months ago I developed a movie for a presentation. It was the opening of a shopping center overseas.
Some images at

I developed the whole building in 5 segments and I created the movies by segment. Each segment (inserted in a work space of 800 x 800 ft, no topography) the size of the Punch files are between 5 to 8 Mb. It took more or less 15 to 20 hours to render (each segment) with good quality, large video size and 15 frames per second. I plan to do a "public movie session" with this work as soon as possible

In the meantime, check this sample elaborated with the Animator. Notice that this movie was edited after Punch, to add music. As it is a big file, depending of your connection, it may take few minutes to load

Hope this helps

Thank you Patricia for answering my last question. Turning off the screen saver is what helped. My next question is this: With regards to sending the avi thru email..I created a 26sec, 1 path, 87x45 size, 15 frames per sec, (only 395 frames) and standard export quality and the file was still 6MB.I also made sure I compressed the file. Is there a way to compress a compressed file?...or even copy it, can I copy it to a dvd? I could at least send it thru snail mail if I can't send a larger video thru email. What can one do to show their work? By the way, I looked at your work, and you are remarkable. Pat

Hi Pat,

I am glad to know that you liked my work! :-D
I am currently working on the new video, you will love the new features!

The first thing you should do--> get a video optimizer program. Go to download.com, you will find several tiles, some of them are free
I'd suggest a conversion to .mpeg format or other more compressed format

Other options
- yes, you can copy the AVI file to a CD or DVD and send it as snail mail
- You can post your video as "private" in a free video website, like youtube, com and send the link to the other party

Let us know if you need additional help

Hi Patricia, Your answers have been invaluable to me, thank you so much. Before I download a video optimizer, can you tell me what benefits it has? I know it compresses as well as converts the .avi to .mpeg but doesn't the video lose some of it's quality the more you compress it? After I convert it to .mpeg does it have more versitility than .avi? I am currently rendering my work and wow it really does take a long time. It has 1951 frames and a custom size (a little larger than medium) and I set it to high quality and 15 fr per sec. I like your idea of YouTube. I figured I'd need the high quality. So far it's taking 14 hours and I still have about 850 frames to go. Now I see why Punch people have several pc's. I'm glad I have 2. Once I get it rendered and downloaded to YouTube, if you're interested in seeing it to give me feedback or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. You are so good at what you do. I would not be offended if you don't have the time. I don't know where you get the time to do handle all these questions and have a full time job. Pat

Hi Pat,

Once again, thank you for your words!! :-D

The movie will lose quality with a video optimizer. It writes the files in other format, more efficient

Of course, I will be glad to see and comment your movie. Just contact me by e-mail and I will tell you how you can send me the large file
