I recently upgraded my video driver, Nov 2007 so I don't think that's the problem.
I've re-formated my hard drive a few times and always have the same problem as mentioned. New projects are fast, projects made before the re-format are slow, slow, slow...

Hi Tom,
I noticed that some (not all) old *.PRO files that ran OK in the past, become slow when you open them after a time.
A workaround that uses to work nicely is the copy of the *.PRO elements to a fresh and empty file. Notice that this doesn't mean "Save As", this means--> Select All--> Copy--> Go to the empty file--> Paste
Hope this helps

Thanks to both for your reply.
One particular project/file is only a few months old so I doubt there's any rust on it. It's also obvious that there is slowdown after adding more objects and materials although, working with projects with equal or more objects after re-format there isn't a problem with speed, hang, etc. I recently upgraded my ram to 1.5GB and with new projects they're a lot faster than with only 512MB ram. Out of curiosity, Does AS5000 have these problems or problems that AS400 v10 have like: elevation editor/dimensions not visable, roof wizard/roof tile orientation, etc.??
Patricia, I did try copying and pasting with no luck.
Thanks again...Tomissan

Hi Tom,
If the speed problem is related with the objects, the copy and paste work will not help. Let me know what I noticed and why I do the "copy and paste" thing.
Some CAD programs (as Autocad, for example) have a function called "purge" that cleans all the auxiliary elements used during the work. Punch hasn't a purge function. Now, I noticed that, if you copy and paste the drawing, the size of the file is reduced, especially if you opened - worked - and closed the drawing lots of times. So I guess this is working like a "purge function" and then, helps to speed the file

Patricia,
Thanks for your input. I've tried several things and what you've suggested seemed to speed things up a bit. Lyle's suggestion of shutting down different objects in 3D also sped things up. I guess he's on vacation, he suggested I send him the project with the problems and haven't received a reply. Thanks again to both of you for your suggestions. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a luminous New Year...Tom

Suddenly my AS4000 won't open, nor will Google Earth. Those are the only two graphics programs on my XP SP2/750MB RAM computer; both programs worked okay in the past. I don't mess with the internal workings of a computer; I'd have no idea what to look for or do.
I have no idea what to do; an email to Punch several months ago was apparently never answered, and they have no phone number, as I recall. To me, this software is now worthless, after having upgraded at least twice. I've lost hundreds of dollars in income from this problem.
Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi trekker, you may want to try looking at your task manager on the processes tab. If you see Google Earth or PunchHomeAS4000.exe present, select them one at a time and click end. Reboot your computer and try to open them again.
Also try some of the basics, from the browser, clear your cookies, temp files and hold down Crtl and hit f5. <-- This one should clear your cache.
I will look in my XP book to see if it mentiones anything about programs not opening and what to do to fix it. If I find anything, I will post the answer this evening.
I found the subject posted on the web here http://bbs.keyhole.com/u...mber/137982/page/vc/vc/1 I found about half dozen others here with the same issue but have hot gotten a fix yet.

Tom:
Easy way to resolve your problem FAST is to use the XP Restore feature and restore your system to a previous working state. I would try tht first. If your graphics card or other hardware has gone south (more unlikly) new hardware would be in order.

Hi trekker,
I checked my files, and I found a case similar with yours.
A Punch user didn't use the program for 3 months and after this time, liveview was not working and the program was extremely slow
This is what happened--> during the period he didn't use the program, Microsoft released and installed automatically some patches in the User's computer, and they unbalanced the VC driver. So, first of all... the old advice--> update the drivers!!!
The second thing happening--> a spyware was affecting the Registry as well as some programs, therefore, I strongly recommend the use of "Adware". Is a free application (for personal use) You can download and install it at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
