I believe he may be talking about a water front bulkhead which is basically an anchored cantilevered wall for soil retention at the water line. To my knowledge the is now "bulkhead" residential building terminology except as above.

What I understand by bulkhead:

A structure on the roof of a building to provide headroom over a stairwell or other opening.

Anyway Tom, if you can describe exactly what do you need, we'll glad to help

Hello, I to am having a problem designing a bulkhead. A bulkhead is used to gain access to the basement directly from outside your home (at least that's what we call it in the Northeast). I have sent a picture to Punch Helpers as a reference (I sent it via Outlook email, I was not sure if I could attach any files to these replies). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob G

Hi, I think the type of bulkhead Tom is refering to is a wall section that hangs from the roof, but only to a certain height. It "defines" a room, while still keeping an open plan. I have done them the same way as Tom, a short section of wall elevated to roof height, but it does not look very good. Firstly the bottom of it is hollow, is there any way to fix that other than drawing small flooring sections and elevating them? Secondly, Punch still shadows the bottom of the wall like it is at floor height, even though it's elevated. Any advise appreciated. Nick

Hi Nick,

Nope. As I stated, Tom sent me a picture and he is talking about a door.
It is ready in the link above

Regarding the wall: are you using autofloor?

Hi Patricia, I do not have autofloor on the walls I'm using as bulkheads, but I do on the other walls. Nick
