Hi waternut2004,
The Stone Cad DXF patterns from Cultured Stone are (as stated by the manufacturer) Cultured Stone® and Cultured Brick® hatch patterns (2-D drawings of textures, sizes and shapes) exportable into AutoCAD® (.PAT). As Punch doesn't elaborate 2D views and elevations, it doesn't use hatch patterns. The Punch DXF import function is useful just to import floorplans My suggestion: Cultured Stone has also nice tileable textures. You can replace some Punch textures with the Cultured Stone's textures

Hi Patricia -
you wrote:

That sounds like what I'm trying to do... actually, can I add instead of replace? I also performed some screen captures and saved the textures to .bmp files but it sounds like you have an easier solution. Please show me the way ;-)
Is there a list of file types and their descriptions that Punch uses?

Hi waternut2004,
You wrote "I have a set of DXF files from a vendor who sells cultured stone..." and your title was "importing a DXF as a material", so I answered about DXF files. DXF files are 2D files, and they are used in 2D elevations Autocad like. These DXF files are different of BMP files. If you check the image attached you will understand the difference.
So, I am not sure if I understand exactly your problem. Are you trying to elaborate a tileable texture from a DXF file? Can you give us more details?

Hi Patricia -
Lets try a different approach to this problem,
Using the JPEG picture that you attatched to your last message, how would I go about replacing an A3000 texture with something that closely approximates the right hand side of that picture (pretending that texture doesnt already exist in A3000)?
Also, how do I attatch files to the messages that I post here?
Thanks for your assistance, JR

Hi again Waternut 2004,
First let me tell you that I used jpg in the samples because the size of the file, but for texture's replacement you must use just BMP files.
In my site, RB explains exactly how to replace the textures http://www.punchhelpers.com/page48.html
(you can also download his nice textures!)
To attach files to the messages: when you answer a message, you have two fields, one where you write the message and other below, called "Attachments", with space for 3 attachments

Can Home Design Platinum import a floor plan that was created in .DWG or .DXF?

Hi John Bossert,
With Platinum you can't import a DXF / DWG.
These are the programs (from Professional to AS 4000) and their import / export features
Professional: imports BMP as trace. Exports DXF (without dimensions and with a difference of 20% in the scale) Platinum: imports BMP as trace. Exports DXF (without dimensions and with a difference of 20% in the scale) AS 18: imports and exports DXF. Also imports BMP as trace (scale and dimensions OK) AS 3000, MLP, and AS 4000: they import and export DXF and DWG. Also, they import BMP as trace. (scale and dimensions OK)

When I insert a BMP file into Professional Platinum it's just a line. How do I get a plane view.

Hi howardag
I guess you are trying to import your .bmp plan using the "Photoview" feature, right?. This is why is appearing a line in the floorplan
1 - If you wish to trace a floorplan: use Design--> Load Floorplan trace image--> open the .bmp plan--> OK--> Trace walls, floors, etc
2 - If you wish to insert a picture with Photoview: use this feature--> Power tools--> Photoview--> File name --> open. You can import pictures to be used in liveview. So in the plan you will see a line (the "board" where the picture is) and in live view you will see a background, house, etc
