Good day, I use an estimation software called Hover to show a client their house in 3D and to show the changes new siding, roofing, or windows and doors would look like. We also offer additions and we have been using punch to build those and estimate from. I heard that I can take the export .DWG file from Hover and import it into Punch, that way I don't have to build the house from scratch every time, but when I click on the import button and go to the folder containing the .dwg file, it doesn't show up as an option to click on. Is there something I am missing? I have version 22.

Hi there, I will be glad to help, however, I'd need additional information. Can you provide more information and a screenshot re: the dwg file that you are trying to import? is it a floor plan, and elevation? I believe the .dwg file is an elevation of each side. I can try to post a screenshot, but where you would normally select the file to open from the import window, there is nothing visible even though I know there is a .dwg file in the folder.

Correct. But when I do that in the folder where I know the .dwg file is, it does not show up as an option in the selection screen. It is just blank with nothing to import.

Yes, we understood this. But we can't define a problem without seeing it. Create and post a screenshot is not complicated. See these instructions and How to post imagesAlso, is your file "myfile.dxf" or "myfile.dwg"? Of course, if you prefer, please submit a ticket to tech support. |

Hi Patricia - I have the same issue - unable to import a DWG file using V22. Here's my file which exists in a Windows folder on my computer: When there is NO DESIGN opened in V22, I have the import option: However, I get an error box suggesting I must have a design open to import: So, when I open a new design, and before I add anything to this new design, I try to import DWG again but option is not available: Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Hi there, In your message, the first screenshot of the program shows an empty file and the second screenshot seems to show a screen in QuickStart mode. The QuickStart mode is just this, a fast layout, that you can use or just bypass it. Therefore, after you press the " Continue" button you will be able to save, import, trace, print, move, as well as use all the Punch features. Import CAD.JPG (39kb) downloaded 1 time(s).Punch, as any program, has a learning curve. The best way to learn the program, IMO, is practice + practice + practice => Read, search and follow the User Guide (this is important) => try to create elements not related with your project, so you will become familiar with the commands and how to manage the different components. If you are interested, my eBook for Punch V22 for Windows includes lots of tutorials about Importing DWG / DXF files. Hope this helps. |
