im very new to this software. im trying to create elevation drawings of small portions of the plan, is there a way to take a small snapshot of a small slice of the plan to create a wall section? when i open the elevation view it only shows the exterior, not all the components of the section.

Hello and welcome,

When you post questions at the Forum, please inform the exact name (Architectural Series or Essentials, etc) as well as the version number of your program (V15 or V18 or V21, etc).
On the PC you will find this information in the main menu => Help => About…
On the Mac this info is on the title menu => About…

Different programs and versions include different features, so we need the information in order to provide the correct solutions.

I will be glad to help, but I see 3 different options:
Do you need an elevation (marked in green in your question), or a structural wall section (marked in red in your question) or a cross section of the project (marked in blue in your question)?

If you wish, attach an image / example. To insert pictures in your post, please follow these instructions.

Hi there,

Some important notes:
- Punch is a 3D Home Design program, not an engineering program, therefore the number of structural visualizations is limited.
- The structural settings can be defined in the Framing tab and visualized in Framing Rendering mode.
- If you prefer, you will find a number of Constructive Details in the 2D Symbols Library.

Hope this helps.

thank you,

so the only way to create details of wall sections would be to create your own in the CAD detail tab

Hi there,

You're welcome Cool

Not really, because it depends of the type of structure and visualization necessities.
For example, underground foundations don't appear in 3D views or elevations, therefore, the only way to create a wall section including a foundation is using the 2D elements in the Detail tab. However, if you need to show the structure of a wall (studs) or a concrete slab, you can define the specs, materials and visualize your structure in 3D / elevation views.

Punch, as any program, has a learning curve. A good way to learn the program, IMO, is practice + practice + practice => Read, search and follow the User Guide (this is important) => try to create elements not related with your project, so you will become familiar with the commands and how to manage the different components.
If you are interested, my eBook for Punch V24 for Windows includes a full chapter called "The Structure", lots of tutorials, screen guides, tables, examples, rendering results as well as images.

Hope this helps.
