To set the walk through elevation, you need to set the elevation of the "Yellow man" or the "Green Man"for controlled view.

Open a liveview window. On the view menu, look for the Walk-Through icon (the yellow man first icon / left or the green man, second icon) double click on it --> the elevation menu is displayed, you can type the desired elevation

During your walk-through, you can press and hold the right mouse button down to raise and lower the viewpoint.

To set the fly around elevation, double click the helicopter elevation and apply the same procedure

If the screen is really 100% black, it sounds like a video card problem. Did you check the drivers of your video card?
