Hi Folks, Am evaluating different design/cad programs, and would appreciate some feedback: 1. Main use is interior renovation and remodel - kitchens, bath, etc. in older homes - is AS 4000 overkill or not appropriate for this? 2. How about the CAD capabilites for custom furniture/fixture design? Are there choices for line weight, style, etc? 3. Can accurate floor plans be drawn from existing measured conditions, esp. from holder homes with the slight out-of-square situations? (sounds simple, but many programs can't handle this!) 4. Does it come w/good selection of pre-drawn items like cabinets, appliances, plumbing? For example, does it have a corner kitchen sink, baseboard radiator or steam radiator? If not, can these be easily drawn and saved? 5. Can the items it does come with be customized, i.e. a diswasher width changed from 30" to 27", for example? Thanks!

I was asked to draw the building plans for a church. Do I need to be a licensed architect to do this? Or, can I instead give the building plans to a licensed contractor who will build it? Ben Tamba

I am interested in the program and concept but want to get a definite answer to the question of blueprints. Can I design a building and get the program to print the plans? I see the framing editor etc. it talks about plumbing details etc. but do these give a real usable plan when you are finished? or are we mainly using the program as a concept visualizer? Thanks Charles

Hi Charles,

If your question means "blueprints for approval with the Building Department", the answer depends of the requirements of the BD. Some BDs ask for a plan and elevations and some require the structural project
If you are looking for a sw, where you draw a floorplan and the sw would determine "use this wood" or "this will be a load wall", this software doesn't exist. Calculations must be performed by a professional.
If you are not sure if a wall is a load wall or not; or which is the right size of wood , the best thing for your safety, call a pro.

We had a lot of interesting discussion about this topic, so I'd suggest to perform a "Search" with the words "Blueprint"and "Architect"

Hope this helps
