Hi heinerdj,

First, let me clarify that we (people answering questions at the Forum) are volunteers, we are not Punch's employees. Therefore, if you have complains about the sw usability, please feel free to contact Punch technical assistance--> [email protected]

Regarding your questions:

- Yes, separate floors require separate files
- You wrote "All the walls were represented as thick lines vs two separate lines representing the wall thickness and could not be dimensioned in AutoCad"--> This is not accurate. The walls are exported as solid lines. Of course, they can be converted into hairlines in CAD [**]
- You wrote "The dimensions displayed were not readable since most of them were partially covered by the thick line representing the walls"--> You can avoid this problem. Just flip the dims in Punch and export after this
- You wrote "Most if not all of the objects were split apart by the export process into individual pieces which made it impossible to modify them"--> You can easily group them in CAD [**]
- You wrote "The .dwg files generated and exported by AS4000 are not formatted correctly to be used by AutoCad 2000 successfully and certainly not seemlessly. I am attempting to export all the versions available (v12,v14,v200,v2004) next to see if any of them work"--> This is absolutely inaccurate. I am an Architect, and I use CAD 2000, DBCAD, Tubocad 8 and Turbocad 11 (it includes all the versions up to 2005). The files you export from AS 4000 can be opened with Autocad 2000 (as well as other versions) without problems [**]
- You wrote "Is there a successfull method we can use to generate an export file compatable with AutoCad 2000?"--> Once you wrote (above) that you opened the files, the export process is working OK.

Two suggestions
- The export process in Punch hasn't a nice quality but it works accurately. So, check the settings of the export process and check your files.
- Your architect is welcome to participate of this Forum. Perhaps he / she can explain exactly why he / she can't open the file. We will be glad to help him / her

The items marked with [**] require detailed explanation of CAD procedures. Of course, we don't provide support of Autocad at this Forum.

Good luck!

I have read with great care on the export problem. I have one also but not in the same way. my process is as follows. 1.autocad outline is created of the outside wall. 2.any support columns, beams, obstructions added. no text. 3imported into punch. 4. text, walls, electrical etc. added. 5 exported back to autocad for insertion into the master drawing of parking lot survey etc. most will export back into autocad with not much problem. I have one that when it is exported the (one layer per save) only thing that shows up is some of the detail and one or two walls. do you need to look at the punch file to see what I am doing wrong. jesse

Hi jesse,

You wrote that you complete the 5 steps without problems, so, the issue is..?

Can you describe in detail what Punch is supposed to do and it doesn't do?

Regarding the second part of your message, are you exporting all the tabs?

I have one drawing that will not export from punch to autocad. natch it's the one I need to export most into the master plan. when I try to export it I get one or two lines that show up in the autocad file but the rest of the walls (and window and doors) are missing. the autocad 'block' when selected is about the right size of the punch but there is not much to see.do yu wish me to send you the punch file? jesse
