Hi BPaul,

believe me, this happens with everyone!! Lots of things I don't know, I learn every day!!

The "add points tool" doesn't work with Punch preset polygons shapes. Use the lines or curves to build the polygons so you can add points

Hope this helps

Patricia, Thanks for that info... That explains what I have been experiencing in the 3-D Custom Workshop.. In the Topo Designer Power Tool, I used the "Curved Topography" line tool to draw my contour lines.. Does this tool fall into the category of "preset polygon shapes"? I read the (hardcopy) User Manual carefully and it indicates (to me (chuckle)) that the Add and Delete Point operations function in the same way.. Thanks, Bruce The harder I work, the behinder I get.

Hi Bruce

Nope, the add point feature doesn't exist in the 3D workshop at all. I guess it was requested but only Punch LLC know if they are going to add the feature or not

Yes, you can use the add / delete points feature with the curved topography (or straight edge). You can't use it with the circle / oval, the rectangle, etc

Let us know if you need additional help

Patricia, Thanks for your reply... but I still cannot figure out the "Add Point" tool. I'm using Verion 10.0.0 After selecting any contour I want to edit, I can manipulate points (in all sorts of cool ways)and delete points. When I click on the selected (contour) line with the Add Point tool, the selected line is simply deslected. At first I thought it may have been a matter of zoomimg in to hit a "grid point" but to no avail. I have reviewed the 10 Commandments and the "Version Tree" notes at ThistleSoft... but cannot recognize any helpful information relating to this matter (2 Thumbs Up to Thistle!!) Frankly I'm embarrassed to have to pursue this subject further.. Does your version 10.0.0 respond correctly? Help! Grin! Thanks!, Bruce The more I know, the more I don't know.

Bruce,

You don't need a line selected to add the point. This is exactly the way it works.
My question is: did you try to add the point even with the line unselected?

Patricia, I've tried using the "Add Point" tool with and without the contour line selected. When the contour line is selected and I click on it with the Add Point tool, the line becomes de-selected. When the (or any) contour line is not selected and I click on it with the Add Point tool, I believe I can seen the hourglass icon flash briefly but but a point doesn't get added. It's as though the line has somehow become locked and refuses to be acted upon by the tool. Suggestions? Comments? Bruce

Bruce,

As I stated previously, the Add point feature doesn't depend of the fact of select or not the entity. Depends of the tool's feature

Try this
- Open an empty file in Punch --> go to the detail tab--> draw circle--> set it as "points" (properties bar)--> select it--> do you see 4 points, right?--> select the add point tool and try to add a point--> you can't. Now, unselect the circle and try to add a point--> you can't
This means that the add pint feature is not available for closed shapes in the Detail tab
- Now, go to the Floor tab--> draw a wall--> select the wall--> Add a point--> you can. Now unselect the wall--> Add a point--> you can
This means that the add pint feature is available for walls

As you can see, the add point feature doesn't depend of the selection mode

Patricia, I followed the procedure in your last response. After drawing the circle while the Detail tab was selected and the Edit Detail-Points option was selected, I could see the four points on the circle. There is no "Add Point" tool that I can locate anywhere to test your theory. Same situation with the wall. There is no Add Point Tool I can find.. (scratching my head...) If the Add Point Tool should be available in the Basic Punch SW then something is wrong with my installation(s)... One on a desk top so my wife can point and say "Do This!" and one on a lap top so I can tinker when I have a few spare minutes during the day. They are apparently functionally equivalent. Both these installs went smoothly with no indication of errors. Note that my problem stems from the use of the Topo Designer Power Tool. I have been unable to add a point to any contour lines generated with the "Curved Topography" Line Tool. My short term solution to the problem is to simply retrace my existing contour lines, making sure I at least triple the number of points on each line so I have more flexibility in adjusting the details later. You are welcome to take some time to ponder this situation.. and suggestions from others are welcome. Cheerful Regards, Bruce

Thank you for giving me time to think, but I don't need it. I work with the Punch programs since 2001 and I know their capabilities
If you have the AS 4000 program, version 8 or 10(you are in the AS 4000 section) you have the Add / delete point feature.

Check the attached image. Be sure your snap button is on, so the snap bar appears
The + sign will activate the add point feature and the - sign will activate the delete point feature

Let us know if you don't find them

Patricia, The Attachment you sent put me straight on the Add Point tool in the Basic Punch Program and it functions as you stated. (I'm a bit embarrassed I couldn't find it earlier). ... In fact, it works just as I would expect it to. When I follow the same procedure with the Topo Design Power Tool open, I cannot get the same result. What am I missing? Frustrated Bruce

First: did you find the + / - point the the TD? Then go back to my first answer: closed shapes don't accept new points / free lines accept

Hope this helps

Patricia, I finally took the time to systematically test all the drawing tools using all the optional modes in the Topo Designer Power Tool. To Summarize. The Add Point Tool ONLY works on straight line segments. Whether the object is open or closed is irrelevant (Version 10.0.0) I found it quite curious that when drawing with the Circular Arc Tool, I could add points to both radii.... Note to self: When using the Curved Topo Tool, be sure to create a generous number of extra points in case details need to be added later. Regards, Bruce The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

Bruce,

I'm glad you discovered exactly what I posted since the first post

I don't agree with "be sure to create a generous number of extra points", extra points add extra rendering time and in addition, you can create extra points later, if necessary

Hands on practice is the best way to learn Punch

yes, this is what I wrote. However, in my opinion you get a best shape with more points.

Of course, is just my opinion
