Hi Tom Issan,

because you are in the Metric system, where the number 12 has not meaning
Then 10:12 in MS is 8.33/10
To revert to 12, go back to the English System

Patricia, Thank you for your answer although I'm still confused...I read the subsequent posts and I think I'm even more confused... Your reply: 10:12 (10" vertical rise for every 12" horizontal run)..in metric: 8.33 cm rise for every 10 cm run ? Is this correct? I thought I read that in using the metric eqation it specified "degrees". 8.33/10 would indicate what degree(s)....thanks for the support.

Hi Tom,

We have two separate problems: one is a technical problem and the second is a language issue
From the technical point of view, yes, the 10:12 pitch in the English system, means 8.33/10. Actually, both operations will provide the same result, and if you apply trigonometry, you will obtain the same angle.

In other words, the angle or the pitch are different ways to express the same inclination of a roof

BTOH, it happens that Mr Carlos lives in Chile, and in South America, roofs are specified in degrees (called inclinations) and not with the pitch
