Hi Shelan,
I don't know how other sw work, however, I know how to design a kitchen (I am an architect), and I'd say that set an absolute rule for kitchen spaces, appliances and cabinets is, at least, irresponsible
First let me tell you about the appliances. Suppose you wish to install a fridge: how many liters? how many doors? with / without water dispenser? with drawers and doors or just doors? With / without freezer? Vertical or horizontal? door finish? free stand or enclosed in a cabinet? I can think at least, 20 more questions and all them will define new settings. You may ask, Patricia, why the door finish is related with dimensions? Answer: because there are some brands (like GE) selling fridges (and other appliances) ready to add a panel with the same finishing of the cabinets, and these fridges, for example, need 2 additional inches to open the door, and as usually are 2 doors, you need 4 additional inches!!!
Can you see why small details can turn a design into a disaster
I'd say that first, you must choose your appliances, and verify the dims of the cabinets modules (if you are going to use premade cabinets)
Punch is a great software for kitchen design, don't forget that a great design flexibility is good tool.
Also, try these resources:
- In the Templates section (Preview bar, right of the screen), you will find 15 kitchen templates, see how they are set
- Use the cabinet wizard, the appliances dims are defined.
- Check the objects in the Kitchen section of the object library
