hi Todd

the AS 4000 forum is in this location
http://forums.punchsoftware.com/WebX?14@@.fabf2ae

When you install a program in a different computer, your Custom textures, Windows, Doors, Objects, etc don't go automatically--> you need to copy them to the new computer
As a general rule, in order to add new objects to your library--> open the objects with the 3D workshop Power Tool--> File--> save to Object Gallery--> follow the instructions
However, there are two important points
1 - To be recognized as POB (Punch object), the object must be part of a category or sub category
For example, Bedroom is a category and Beds is a sub category.
2 - The categories and sub categories must be created within the program and not in the Windows Explorer
If you click in the 3D object library button (top of the bar), you can launch the 3D Object Organizer--> with this tool you can create new categories and sub categories as well as move the POBs among the different locations
Similar rules are valid for materials--> create the categories within Punch
If you copy a material or object without a proper category created within Punch, your will get a gray / empty menu

In my opinion and in my experience a good performance in games doesn't mean necessarily a good performance with Punch. Not always.
Please, check this post

I'd suggest that you follow these steps
1 - Check the website of your video card manufacturer and update the drivers

2 - Go to the video setup on your PC (may be different for different versions of Windows and video card); for most, click on an empty part of the windows Desktop, click on Settings->Advanced->Troubleshoot). Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem dissapears

3 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK

4 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color")

5 - Go to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer

6 - Some NVidia card users reported additional problems--> in this case change the color settings from 32 bit to 16 bit

Also, I'd suggest to run the program in Compatibility mode

let me know if you still experience problems

Thanks Patricia - I do have Nvidia, and I changed my color setting to 16 bit and that solved problem #1.

I also changed the compatibility to have it run like it did in XP instead of Vista, and that solved #3 and #4.

I still lost all my custom textures and objects though :-( They all were created in Punch originally, and they do show up in the designs I created previously, but they don't appear in libraries. I can open the custom objects in 3D workshop and save them again, but that doesn't account for all the ones I used to have.

For the doors and textures, I have to start over which is very cumbersome - most plans I created each had their own custom doors and windows.

I do appreciate your advice and I'm glad I got most things working again.

Todd

PS - I discovered the AS4000 forum after I submitted this original post :-)
