Hi Shoyuuuu

The Punch programs' compatibility works following the ascendant version number (actually is the sw industry standard). This means that old files are compatible with new versions but this doesn't work backwards
Therefore, a file elaborated with Plat V4.5.1. can be opened with Plat V8 , but a file elaborated with Plat V8 will not open with Plat V4.5.1.

Hope this helps

Hi Patricia, Yes I'm aware that a plan file once opened with a newer version Pro Plat v8 may not open with an older Pro Plat v4.5.1 again. But I replaced those opened plan files with my backup disk which should have returned the v4.5.1 plans to it's original state. That's why you make backups, right? But I still can't open the files in v4.5.1 and I get the error messages. Why is this? I even tried to trick the program by changing the name of the original files and it still won't work.

Hi Lyle, Here's what I did before I logged into this forum for help. I uninstalled Pro Plat v8 and v4.5.1. I did a disk frag which includes a scan disk for any errors and then re-installed v4.5.1 immediately following up with installing the v4.5.1 patch. I did another disk frag and then copied my original back-up plan files onto my hard drive. My v4.5.1 plan files still doesn't work. Anymore suggestions? I can try uninstalling and re-installing again following the steps described above. But this shouldn't happen with a clean re-install and back-up restore. Note: Before I began using v8, I made sure I had a current back-up of all my 4.5.1 files. The reason why I'm trying to stick with v4.5.1 is because I did a lot of work with creating new textures for the roof, flooring, custom cabinetry & counter tops and v8 doesn't readily seem to pick up these enhancements. I would hate to go back in and have to re-create all of them in v8. Plus the plan file that nolonger works is close to my final floor plan of my house renovation with major changes.

Hi Shoyuuuu,

well, this is very odd. Try this: move all the plans to a new file-> create a new file--> copy the back up file--> change the name--> try to open with V4.5.1.

If nothing happens, send me the old file (send it directly from the backup disk), I will try to open it here

Hi Lyle, I even tried opening a v4.5.1 plan file directly from my back-up CD and that too didn't work. The files on my CD could not have changed since they are "read only" and have to be burned on the CD. This is all puzzling to me. I will try one more time tonight to re-install v4.5.1 and copy my back-up plan files to my hard drive again. If it doesn't work, I'll send you a plan file that was affected to take a look at. Thanks!

Hi Patricia, Only 3 of my plan files which were opened in Plat v8 are affected. I can't open these files at all in v4.5.1. I'm not sure what you mean by "move all the plans to a new file-> create a new file--> copy the back up file--> change the name". I did try to copy my original file from my back-up CD and even changed the name of the file, but that didn't work either. Read my responses to Lyle for all the options I tried so far. As I told Lyle, I'm going to try to uninstall v4.5.1 one more time then re-install the program and patch again and copy my original back-up files to my hard drive.

Just a note. I checked Shoyuuuu's plan in my own Platinum 4.5.1. and it doesn't open. However, it opens OK in V8

Hi Shoyuuuu,

I meant move all the Punch plans to a new file. (to avoid the name's issue)

However, I wrote it before I checked your file....
