Hi Neil,
The right procedure to export Punch to DXF is:
- Save three copies of your Punch plan - Name the first plan "myfirstfloor.PRO" (or the name your like). Delete all the elements of the second and third floor - Name the second copy "mysecondfloor.PRO" (or the name your like). Delete all the elements of the first floor and third floor. - Name the third copy "mythirdfloor.PRO" (or the name your like). Delete all the elements of the first floor and second floor. - Open "myfirstfloor.PRO" and be sure that you are in a tab (say the Floor tab) with all the tabs checked, like in the image attached (this is very important) - Export to DXF - Repeat the process for "mysecondfloor.PRO" and "mythirdfloor.PRO"
Let us know if you need more help

Hi Patricia, I saw your post on exporting to .dxf files. You note that you must separate each floor into its own file. I was thinking of this as a last resort when I discovered upon my first export experiment that both floors of my two story design ended up as a jumbled-up single floor when imported into AutoCad. Is this really the only way to do it? Seems pretty painful for a design that is likely to iterate. Do you know if this is a limitation of the .dxf format or of Punch? If it is a limitation of Punch, do you know if they are likely to fix? Thanks, Greg

Hi greg,
It is not a limitation, it looks to me like common sense, once you are converting a 3D file into a 2D file, so you need to explain to your CAD program the limits of each level. You define these limits when you save 3 separate plans
To separate and export plans, please follow these steps:
- Open your Punch plan. - Set the first floor as working plan. - Edit--> Select All--> Edit--> Copy - Create a new and empty Punch file. - Set the first floor as working plan. - File--> Paste - File--> Save as -->firstfloor.PRO - Power Tools--> DXF/ DWG Exporter--> Save as--> firstfloor.dxf or firstfloor.dwg
Repeat the process with level 2 and level 3
Hope this helps

I have Professional V17.0.0 using MS XP and have no problems using the tools in Punch Home Design & Landscaping Professional. Here is a message from my architect... does this sound correct? I was hoping he could take my DXF file and modify the drawings & not have to redraw the house I've already drawn. "I was able to read the dxf file but it cannot function as an Autocad drawing. I need to redraw from scratch." Does any one in the community able to do provide this service or know anyone who does? Kevin Buchanan

Hi Kevin, The DXF / DWG files can be read by Autocad (both formats are exported from Punch). Actually, they are native CAD formats The texts and dimensions usually need be retouched. The elevations don't export directly to DWG Of I course, you already know my services, and I will be glad provide the drafting services for you Patricia --> My website: www.punchhelpers.com--> My NEW e-book: Learning Punch Software (R): Basic & Advanced Training --> My e-book: Learning Punch Software (R): Importing, Exporting and Printing --> My e-books free video presentation: Pat's e-books --> My Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/punchhelpers.links--> Twitter: Follow me on Twitter |
