Using version: V21 Home and Landscape Design Essentials

Help me with my dimensions. In every plan I have drawn, I get different dimensions with the Dimensions box check on the Label Tool compared to the Dimension Wall Spacing Tool. See the attached file.

2022-03-02.png (70kb) downloaded 7 time(s).

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you,
Joanie

Hi there,

The issue is the room space definition => The room dimensions (label) show the dims between the axis of the walls. The wall to wall dimension tools show the distance between the surfaces of the walls.

A workaround:
1 - Click in the center of the room => deactivate the label (Name, Dimensions and Area)
2 - Go to the Detail tab => using the polygon shape => outline the desired area (Kitchen, for example) => select the polygon => Properties bar => calculate area
3 - Using the dimension tools => take the room dims.
4 - Using the Text tool => Add the desired name, dims and area.

Hope this helps.

The wall to wall dimension tools show "external" surfaces?

Hi there,

The wall to wall dimensions can be from surface to surface of the walls (not the exterior walls of the room) or from center to center.

See attached

Hope this helps

Looking for that option on my program. I am using the Essentials v21. I am not finding what you showed in the picture. I am seeingDesign=2D Options=dimensioning and fonts=wall attachment dimensions. It gives me "position from edges" and "positions from centers." Surfaces is not mentioned. Am I in the right spot?

I think that your program includes the Dimension Wall Spacing tool. See image below.

Punch, as any program, has a learning curve. The best way to learn the program, IMO, is practice + practice + practice => Read and follow the manual (this is important), see the videos => In order to get started, try to create elements or a simple plan not related with your project, so you will become familiar with the commands and how to manage the different components and solutions.

Still working on dimensions. I have my setting to whole inches. I also have it set to surface. In the attached picture, one end of the dimension line is on the surface. One is in the center. How do I correct this so that they both are measuring from surface to surface?

What do you mean?

Try to detail the problem as specifically as possible, so we can understand the issue. Let us know exactly what you want to do, what you tried, what seems broken, etc.
