I sort of figured this out, but alas I'm blaming it on being an aging blond ... I forgot ...

I'm attempting to load my property survey and sketch out the basics of my property, outbuildings, homes, etc. before diving into the details.

Where can I find the tutorial for:
1) loading a reference image to trace over with the property line and wall tools
2) enlarge that to the proper scale

Thank you!

Ok, this is annoying ...

I'm obviously attempting to use this in a manner it's not capable of or not intended for.

I can't enlarge my survey beyond 2000% which leaves me about 2-400% too small.

This probably means I need to adjust my scale so I can draw my buildings to the proper scale.

Based on this and my previously described goals, does anyone have advice?

Thank you!

Hi there,

Regarding the trace image and resizing it, I'd suggest that you follow the instructions at page 271 in the User Guide.

If you prefer, in my eBook exclusive for Mac V20 users, you will find an entire chapter about how to start a project, resizing images, etc.

Hope this helps.

Nope, not doing something right. Here is what I am running into:
- When I resize it fully (2000%), it still isn't enough to match the wall length of any buildings (i.e., 46.1' but the trace object is still too small)
- I can start over if there isn't a way to reorient it, but being able to adjust orientation would be super

Thoughts?

Now to find the user's guide ... I didn't remember seeing one, but I'll poke around a bit. Thank you.

Well, that was a "duh" moment ... thank you for pointing out the obvious to the ol'timer.

However, this is all but unworkable. Once I put in the trace image and got things scaled properly, I can hardly move around the canvas without a crash.

Hopefully, I uploaded it properly. We live on the edge of civilization so internet is a luxury that we rarely get with any level of stability.

As you can see, this lot is only 1 acre and I scaled down to 1/4" = 1' so it would fit easily. However, anytime I attempt to open 3D and sometimes (often) when I move around the screen, it crashes. I've left it for three hours without resolution so I am unsure how to fix it other than send in my bug reports each crash.

Hi there,

Let me try to understand the issue => you load the trace image in the program => go to 3D => the program crashes?

Did you draw anything in the Punch file?

Not exactly, here is my process so far:
1) load image
2) scale to proper size using a known measurement (not exact, but close enough)
3) draw a building or two with no internal walls yet (you can se them slightly over the two main buildings (opacity is sort of visible)
4) by this time, it is hard to move around at all, taking several seconds to do some minor or navigation tasks
5) attempt to open 3D window (second option down - not full window)
6) spinning wheel of death

Thoughts?

Hi there,

Let's make a few tests.

1 - Open the current file => Go to Design > Hide Floor Plan Trace Image => Try to move around => are the 2D / 3D problems still there?

2 - Open the current file => does the file include the topography? => if so => deactivate temporarily the topography (Setting Navigation Options - User's guide page 276 - uncheck the topography option) => see if the 2D / 3D issues are still there.

3 - Open a new and empty file => draw a couple of walls => are the 2D / 3D issues still there?

1) still crashes/hangs indefinitely
2) repeat of 1, but there is no topography
3) no issue, runs smoothly

Hi there,

I think that something in your file is interfering with your computer.

As I can't check this type of issue from here, I'd suggest that you contact Punch Tech Support.
In order to save time, you can send them a link to this post.

Good luck with your project! ThumpUp

Will do, but I'm unsure about the file because I have attempted this with several completely new files. Still, I agree it's time to contact support ... they can confirm whether or not it's user error by the aging blond, lol. Thanks for your help!
