Hi BLS,

To develop a 3D object in the 3D workshop, you should start with a closed polygon and extrude it

If you create a line and extrude it, you will get a surface
(see attached)

Anyway, other good way to create arches in Punch is using empty curved door casements. You can add or not columns between arches

(I copied this answer in the 07/19 post as well)

Can Punch 4000 design a truss plan to permit standards? Can an attic truss be drawn? How so? Also, can Punch also create wall sections with structural architectural design specs for permit standards including rebar in foundations? Thank you for your time and patience... JB wolfzone PS. Having started again full time at work every day, any assistance here would be appreciated to assist and fast track my family's needs with our home permit requirements. I have been working on plan view details and elevations with some good success though need to develop the permit standards very soon.. again, thanks to all Punchers...

Hi Jacques Boulet

If your question means "does this software perform the calculations?", or "does this software provide the specs?", the answer is, "nope, it doesn't" and more, if you are looking for a sw, where you draw a floorplan and the sw would determine "use these trusses" or "this will be a load wall", this software doesn't exist. Calculations must be performed by a professional

The words "permits standards" have different meaning in different Counties
If your question means "blueprints for approval with the Building Department", the answer depends of the requirements of the BD. Some BDs ask for a plan and elevations and some require the structural project
I'd suggest also, to read my article "Do I need an architect?"in my website
http://www.punchhelpers.com/need_arch.html

Regarding your question about AS 4000, yes, you can elaborate building details with the "Section Detailer"power tool and link (or not) the details to your plan. The program includes several "ready to use" details, you just need to complete them with the building / structural info

Let us know if you need additional info

I had tried both those options before posting the question; unfortunately, neither seems to work for my situation. As to the closed polygon, I am not artistic enough to draw free handed a smooth arch using that, or maybe I just don't know how to use the tool. Using the curved door casements on a full-height wall tends to produce a "deep" angle arch as shown in your attachments, which is not what I want; I also do not want the arch to go to the floor. I want a very subtle arch, the ends of which will sit on the tops of columns say 8 feet tall. I have tried to use the empty curved door casements on a short wall and elevate the wall to the tops of columns. This comes very close to what I want, except that I can not get rid of the "trim" (set at 0) which appears in odd places and detracts from the product. Thanks for your help on this.

Hi BLS,

Once you have AS 4000, you can try to build your own curved casement with the Door Designer Power Tool. In this way, you can set the curve / dimensions / details of your arch
In addition you can use the Trim Designer Power Tool + the Trim library to set the casement effects

There is other technique you can use with the 3D workshop. You can follow the explanation with the image attached.
In this case, I drew a rectangle in the back grid--> select--> Edit--> Revolve--> the angle will be 180° and he radius (in this case) 50"--> different combinations of shapes / angles / radius will provide different arches
The revolve function works in the perpendicular
grid, this is the reason why the red arch in "in the floor", you can select it and rotate
Notice that all the objects developed with the Revolve feature are large objects (large in kb)

In addition, if you have V10, you can import a 3DS arch to the 3D workshop. There are lots of free 3DS objects in the web.
Check my tutorial about this subject

Hope this helps
