Good day I hope someone has solved this problem. When objects have been placed near eachother there appears to be no way to select one or more of the objects in 2D view. The selection tool picks whichever it seems to think is the best one and does not allow the selection of any of the other items. Current Example. A 5gang ligth switch has multiple wires comming from it. The central gang wire end-point, once placed, cannot be selected again because the end point is too close to the 5gang switch selection point and the selector tool will never select the wire end point. Even on full 1333% zoom. In this particular case I cannot even select the whole central wire near the switch because it then selects the cabinet below the wire. This seems to happen in many different situations where objects are placed close to eachother. An older version used to highlight the various objects in blue so you could pre-view which object would be selected by the tool but this is no longer the case, at least with v20, unless there is a wonderful magic setting I have missed (hoping ) Work-arounds: 1. moving objects onto other plans and shifting to those plan views to move the object then re shifting back to the first plan and then continuing. 2.deleting or moving enough other objects to get the selector tool to pick the one you want. I'm hoping there is some trick that I have missed to allow finer selecting on objects. I should also say that I have tried adjusting the preferences>editing>selection sensitivity to large and small with no noticable effect. Thanks for any insight. Phil |

Hi there, I will be glad to help, but I am not sure if I understand your questions and references? What do you mean by "highlight the various objects in blue"? Do you mean selecting 2D objects or components? You mentioned an old program => can you inform the name and version number of the old program? Also, can you share a screenshot of the current problem? How to post images |

Thank you for trying here, Patricia. And thanks for you work putting out good eBooks. Quote:What do you mean by "highlight the various objects in blue"?
I've used a few versions of Punch Home Design Studio Complete so I don't remember which version it was (possibly 17) but I just recall where the outline of the 2D object/item/component would change to a light blue colour when the mouse hovered near it. This was just a note and not the issue I'm having currently. Hopefully I'm not remembering a different program!?! Quote:Do you mean selecting 2D objects or components?
The inability to select effects all 2D objects and 2D components at different times. Quote:You mentioned an old program => can you inform the name and version number of the old program? It would have been a Home Design Studio Complete (mac) of some version that I cannot go back to now. It is was only a note and not relevant if the feature no longer exists. Quote:Also, can you share a screenshot of the current problem? 5gang select.png (329kb) downloaded 2 time(s). wire select.png (315kb) downloaded 2 time(s).And to clarify the problem/question... How do I select an item that is located so close to another item that it cannot be selected? (It sounds a little silly when I say it that way but I'm not sure how else to simplify the question?)Thanks for anyone's help |

Hi there, Glad to know that you like my eBooks I believe that you are talking about the Selection Filter options, that is present in the current versions of Punch! for Windows. The very old Mac versions don't work with my current OS, so I can't check this information. I'd suggest that you submit a ticket to Tech Support regarding this issue. Hope this helps. |

Thanks, Patricia.
I will take out a ticket with tech support.
Just in case it was not clear, I'm operating v20 on mac, as it says in my signature.
Does that change your ability to take a stab at troubleshooting this for me?
Cheers |

I was just answering your question regarding the missing feature (the one you had in a previous version) => as I stated, I can't check the old versions in my current Mac. In you current program you can't filter your selections. To separate the elements, you can move the elements not attached to the walls to other tabs and show/ hide the different tabs. Hope this helps. |

Hello all.
I just want to report back on this post.
The tech support was very helpful and came up with the best workaround so far.
In brief: If the item/object/etc. cannot be selected...
1. Go to the plan tab of the object (electrical in this case) 2. On the right hand panel, "Properties" (i), de-select the "visible plans" of the interfering items/objects/etc. until the one you want to select is free.
Thanks Patricia for the link to report the challenge to Tech Support Thanks to Tech Asghar for the solution. |

Good to know that Asghar recommended the same solution that I wrote in the my answer above! |
