When I try to "click on the exterior side of the perimeter walls, a yellow band should be created around the walls"

I get no response when I click on the exterior side of the perimeter wall. If I get too close then I get the wall itself not the footing. What could/might I be doing wrong.

Thanks

The title states footing but I did not put that in the body of the question

Hi there,

I can think about 2 or 3 possible issues. To be sure, can you post a screenshot of the problem?

Footing Issue.jpg (53kb) downloaded 7 time(s).
I think this will show the screen shot of what I am working with at this point. A simple 40x60 building with footing and stem wall foundation but the default footing is 12 inches it appears and I can't get the outer footing line to pop up the yellow boundary which then engages the option for width/depth.

Hi there,

Thank you for posting the image, but in order to analyze the perimeter, I'd need to see the entire perimeter of the building.
Something like this:

Interesting that dimensioning does not show on the foundation tab.
Here are several screen shots. Two are from the foundation tab. One is from the floor tab which shows dimensions since the foundation tab I can't get to display dimensions.
May be related to the other issue on adjusting the footing width and not getting the footing to click activate the outer band.

Hi there,

I checked the images.
If you are starting a project without the Quick Start Wizard, develop the Exterior walls first, confirming that the Exterior Walls are forming a closed polygon and also, all the wall segments in the perimeter must be fused (using the mouse).
For this issue work using the Floor Tab.
Once you verify these conditions, the yellow band feature will appear (see image attached).

Screenshot 2026-04-21 161059.jpg (21kb) downloaded 2 time(s).

Note that the program needs this closed polygon for 2 reasons.
a) The interior space outlined by the exterior walls will be considered “the building” so it will automatically get roofs, floors, etc.
b) The topography elements, slopes, berms, etc. will stop at the exterior walls (so the grass will not invade the interior of the house).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your assistance.

I was trying to click on the red line (footing line) on the outside of the foundation since that is what I was trying to modify.
I would have never guessed that to modify the footing width that I would generate the yellow boundary/line on the floor tab instead of the foundation tab.
To me, if working on foundation you work on that tab.
Now at least I understand that you work on the floor tab to modify the foundation/footing characteristics.

Again thanks

Glad to be of help! Cool

The foundation tab components are intended to add extra elements to your foundation plan, such as Stiffener beams, piers, etc. The footing is considered part of the walls in the perimeter.

Hope this helps.
